I've always wondered something.
Why do Americans refer to Toronto as Toronto, Canada and not Toronto Ontario, or Toronto Ontario Canada. Its just helps feed their belief Canada is just a chunk of land and everyone knows Joe from Canada :)

Well, I’m an American, and I’ve always referred to Canadian cities as [city, province]. It just seems more “right.” (Of course, I also refer to foreign countries by their proper names, as opposed to the “Anglicized” versions.) :)

Perhaps it is because people from Toronto often seem to have the attitude that Canada begins and ends in Toronto.

For me, it's Tornonta Canada the way it's London, England or Dublin, Ireland. The "default" for an American is to assume that a city is in the USA unless the country is specified, and in the name of expediency we leave the province out. No offence intended.

Wait a minute, hold the phone!
I thought Canada was just a chunk of ice.

Well, I thought about T.O., Ontario, Canada, but I figured it was just too much typing. hehe. Actually, since the user group here and elsewhere is fairly international I thought the convention was city-country, and city-region-country was only used to distinguish a city for a closer national audience/group, or if the geography played an important role. We must be 50% Canadians in here so far if this actually matters.
And do we really need the whole Toronto thinks it is Canada rhetoric from the west (& east) Peanut Galleries??? Particularly the CCRAP cronies out west. Why? Cause we got a little oil money directed our way? News Flash. Economically at least, Toronto (and Ontario) is Canada. More money flows from Ontario taxpayers into other provinces than flows in Ontario from outside. Now, due to the population and resource distribution, all of Canada would suffer if any part were to be separated, but lets not forget where most of the money comes from, or where most of the people live. Ontario doesn't dominate elections, in fact as a person living in Ontario (especially on in Toronto) my vote counts for proportionally less than in any other part of the country. (here we have ridings of up to 100 000 voters) Elswhere in Canada there are ridings of as few as 2000-3000.
Ontario ought to have more influence over politics, not less. Ditto, Toronto.
In any event, what would the proceedure be for verifying if this dorsal is the dorsal who so accurately described the quicksliver powermacs???

That's not Dorsal. A select few here know my own relationship with Dorsal and know his writing style. Mods can compare IP's of the old Dorsal and this one and see if they're the same because I know for a fact his IP hasn't changed since last he spoke.

Well, Outsider. If you know Dorsal's IP, you presumably know how to get in touch with him as well. How about sending him an invitation. I am certain that the mods/admins will gladly reassign the Dorsal name to the real Dorsal. Right, Jonathan?

Well, Outsider, I think that you may be jumping the gun. After all, you only have a couple of sentences by which to guess whether this D is the real D. You truly must be a great stylistic analyst.
I for one will extend dorsal the benefit of the doubt, and listen to what he has to say. Wow. One post and 20 non-replies. AI is truly back.

By the way, how can one know dorsal's ip when he used anonymizer?

I was under the impression that Dorsal was an avid user of
<a href="http://www.anonymizer.com" target="_blank">www.anonymizer.com</a>
Hence knowing "his" IP is the same as knowing the ip of Anonymizer.com

Sorrey but if youread the earlier posts of yesterday you will have read that all the old posts have been lost so I don't think we will ever know .

Whether or not his ip has changed I can not tell you. Whether or not he used a different machine to register, I can not tell you.
However, I do remember his posts, have read them as much as anyone, and am completely unable to tell from the 3 sentences above whether that is the self-same individual. Anyone who claims to be able to do so is blowing smoke. There. I said it.
That said, I hope he returns, if this is not simply a slip-up using the "Shift" key. Holy cow. Worrying about a capital letter? I suggest reserving judgement.

Hey Retrograde,
As distasteful as the truth is, that doesn't change the fact that it is Ontarians (particularly from Toronto) who get the least for their tax dollar (per capita.) We may suck up a lot of funds, but we also have a hell of a lot more people. The rest of Canada does a lot better in terms of resources per person.
If democracy were to be truly representative (and I don't think that it should) Ontario would have to have even more seats than it currently does.

I think he got burned pretty bad by the last Macworld. I'm pretty sure the real Dorsal was legit though. It's good because the machines he predicted will have had an extra 3-4 months of bug fixing(and maybe G5's instead). First revisions of hardware always have their kinks.

Good suggestion, Mandricard, and based on a perfectly reasonable analysis. However, I would think that Dorsal would have followed up with actual information instead of just bait. More than 48 hours have passed since his original post. Finally, I would think that somebody who had access to prototype Apple hardware would be grow un enough to sleep at night. A post at 04:43 am? That looks fishy to me. I seem to remember that the old Dorsal posted during daytime hours. Anybody have a better recollection?

I just can't do it anymore.I had some good fake rumors coming too! This is why I named the thread "to those who believe." I thought the Admins would just along with it in order to get some page hits. As soon as I saw they were pessimistic, I lost interest. It would take too much time to make up the rumors the real Dorsal came up with.Remember that. I do believe he was for real.Oh well!
