I'd love to, but I didn't keep a copy of all the links for myself! :( I relied on the AI post that used to <a href="http://forums.appleinsider.com/ubb/Forum11/HTML/001024.html" target="_blank">live here</a>. I believe AppleMaster has a good list of all the keynote links that were posted. AppleMaster?

OK. After reading the thread <a href="http://forums.appleinsider.com/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic&f=11&t=000007" target="_blank">here</a> about bringing back an archive of old posts, I suddenly thought of a crazy way of resurrecting many of the old posts.
...
And it works! So far, I've been able to successfully resurrect all four pages from the original thread which this one is based on. :)
You can see them here:
<a href="http://commons.ucalgary.ca/king/appleinsider/Forum11/HTML/001024.html" target="_blank">Page 1</a>
<a href="http://commons.ucalgary.ca/king/appleinsider/Forum11/HTML/001024-2.html" target="_blank">Page 2</a>
<a href="http://commons.ucalgary.ca/king/appleinsider/Forum11/HTML/001024-3.html" target="_blank">Page 3</a>
<a href="http://commons.ucalgary.ca/king/appleinsider/Forum11/HTML/001024-4.html" target="_blank">Page 4</a>
Amazing, huh? :D
I'm going to continue working on this and see what else I can resurrect.

This is great, I have always wanted to have some form of it on an actual VHS. So all I have to do is turn it into a DV stream and put it on a tape.

Nick, I don't have AIM. However, I'm having moderate success in resurrecting old pages. I'll be posting my progress in the thread, "<a href="http://forums.appleinsider.com/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic&f=11&t=000007" target="_blank">Is it possible to bring back an archive of all old posts?</a>." can anyone tell me, or show me... or just link to CNN streams?
I really want to get a hold of the high-res Sept 11th streams... as macabre as that may seem.
I can't find the archives now... but an indicator would be good and maybe I can figure it out later.
thanks

I just turned the iPod 300MB movie into a DV stream and then put that onto a VHS tape. The video and sound qualitiy is not perfect, but it is good enough for my "I LUV apple-LIke ness" <img src="graemlins/hmmm.gif" border="0" alt="[Hmmm]" />

Actually, I second this motion. I am gathering as many pictures, articles, and movies from 9/11/01 as I can. History, no matter how terrible, should not be forgotten.
I have a 700MB cd image of pictures, and news of the attacks right now, and there is supposed to be one with Multi-Media floating around but I have not seen it. Anyone heard anything?

BTW, From King Chung Huangs origional answer to how he saved the movies rather than the links to the movies.
[quote]As for my "secret", it's actually quite simple. What I do is I save a self-contained version of movie in the QuickTime player that shows up after you click the "Watch now" button on Apple's pages. This file will contain, among other things, where the stream data is located on Akamai's servers. So, open the file with BBEdit, and locate the string that contains the akamai address. Then, like all Akamai addresses, pick out the part of the address that refers to an Apple server. Since all of Apple's QTV servers also respond to HTTP requests, you can then append http:// to the beginning of the address segment that you picked out of the Akamai address, and download the video!
To get the different datarate versions, I just set my QuickTime control panel to the desired datarate, reclick the "Watch now" button, save the new QT player file, and extract the URL from that. Apple's naming convention for the different speeds are quite consistent so you can easily guess the file names for the other speeds from that.<hr></blockquote>
It is very cool that you found a lot of the old AI pages. A walk down amnesia lane that is. Are the Mods gonna try to bring them back so we can search them?

A bit off topic, but here are the RTSP of some of the CNN streams I would like to save. Anyone care to take a crack at it? Their servers do not seem to respond to the HTTP requests.

Yeah, I know! I thought they would be bigger as I told it to give the most bandwidth hogging stream. Thus the T1 refrence in the URL. However, I think they are trying to precerve their bandwidth for other things now that the story has "blown over" so to speak. If anyone finds the big streams let me know too.

I've never seen CNN deliver any sort of true high qualtiy/high bandwidth streams before. Even with the "T1" reference, the CNN streams are usually below 200 Kbps.
If you really wanted HQ videos, you could try asking your local TV news station. I've done that before for tapes of old shows and stuff (although it was all work related).

Thanks to all for this. By the way, after trying iCab and Netscape 6.2 on OS X I switched to Netscape 4.7 running in Classic and have had no problem downloading even the largest file.
It was impressive to me to sit here burning a CD-R in one window, watching a keynote at largest possible size (cinema display) in another window while monitoring Netscape download another keynote (about 120 kbytes/s) in a third window. All without a hiccup. I love OS X.

As a paying ADC member, I think I'll pass on this one.
If you're looking for a way to view all the streams for actual informational purposes, I may be willing to give you one of my ADC TV keys for that. I attended the conference, and got 3 keys to view the sessions online. I have one extra one left. Contact me via e-mail if you're interested.
Nebagakid: Apple does provide a few streams for "free". It costs $400 to access the rest of the streams (and the DVD).

Maybe its cause its part of the whole you need to have QT5 Pro to watch large format? That's the way it was for watching some of the older keynotes as of a few weeks ago.

You can't save the stream directly (that I know of). Anyway, there are so may dropped frames and such you wouldn't want it anyway. A few days after the event Apple usually makes the stream available from a disk file. If you follow one of the links above you get direct access to the QT file. From there you have various ways to save the file. For example, in iCab option-click on the link and it saves the contents as a file rather than trying to display it.

greetings all
couple of quick points to add (on topic and off)
i should invoke the traditional radio talk show "long time listener, first time caller" intro.
wrt saving qt streams:
it makes a difference which version of qt, pro/no,
2.5 (free) could save, 3.0 ($ upgrade before save). there are times when going back a version enabled functions 'improved' in newer revs. <img src="graemlins/surprised.gif" border="0" alt="[Surprised]" />
(this may be moot if MWNY streams are QT5/6 only)
but... as noted prior in this thread, stream performance (and HD defrag/perf too... min 7200rpm for good vidcap) will limit usable capture quality such that the day or two wait until apple archives a tweaked d/l may not be worth it.
it's not like you'll be the only contestant in line for the fat pipe that day...
dropout during the jawdropping intros might cause corruption and stress on top of anticipatory anxieties, already in progress
- many other factors in your config, let alone web traffic may degrade things further... if you're hoping to read URLs of Steve's screen, the stream probably won't hold the res of the optimized and recoded d/l
that said... os X (and some other Unix) video playback engines make use of a hardware abstraction layer that CAN be stripped off and recorded by "tapping" that feed prior to screen display and dumping a 'copy' of said info out to device (vhs tape, file, etc)
[i think this is the basis of Snapz Pro's claim to capture video and stills from DVD and QT... some copyright issues here methinks.]
- <a href="http://www.ambrosiasw.com/utilities/snapzprox/" target="_blank">SnapzProX Homepage</a> -
[[Snapz Pro X can even capture images and movies that are playing on your DVD Player if you have an
nVidia graphics card!]]
your qt prefs have a tickbox for "save movies in disk cache" and as others have noted, a sherlock search (perhaps by size >x and date) will help
but the dynamic cache isn't an obvious .mov or .qt
* bonus qt trick to impress friends *
though it probably won't work for streams,
qt is the only player i'm aware of that will
PLAY MOVIES BACKWARDS! <img src="graemlins/smokin.gif" border="0" alt="[Chilling]" /> (yoda makes more sense) partway through a movie press Apple+leftarrow
browsers usually back up a page, but QT reverses

Since MPEG4 came out it seems Apple has a different way to keep their original files on the server. The only way I managed to copy the stream was a rather brute force method.
-Connect the video out from a PowerBook to the video in of a Formac Studio DV.
-Connect the FW output of the Formac to a G4 tower.
-View the Keynote on the powerbook, set it to display full screen on the second monitor (the Formac DV).
-Record the video on the G4 with the shareware program Vidi.
-Compress the resulting file with QT. Result was abot 800MB. I tried DIVX but it was slower and didn't make the file any smaller and it had problems with the sound.
I suppose you could also just record to a VCR but then you wouldn't have a digital format.

If we are unable to download keynotes anymore, we need to get organised better - we need to capture the videos (using a Format Studio or similar means) and then get them shared out on Gnutella etc. A mailing list for those interested in trading would also be nice. There's one or two guys in this thread who would be the obvious ones to start a list or website - guys?

I can't really understand why Apple has gone to extra trouble to secure its streams.
Surely it's in their interest to get the keynotes shown as widely as possible?
The very reason I want this one is to burn to a CD to mail to a friend who doesn't have cable (less common here in Australia than the US)... He would just go crazy seeing the G5 presentation.

Anyone have tuedays keynote recorded? I would like to show the garage band demo to couple of PC logging friends.
Thanks
Not quite the answer you want, but Apple does have the streaming keynote up at this link:

I know that. The problem is we are behind a firewall and cannot view streamed media. SO need a .mov file.

here's another one but this one is tricky
http://stream.qtv.apple.com/events/jul/keynote/mwny_mp4_28_56_100_300_ref.mov
click on it and it asks if you have qt 6...this is mw ny 2001
so because you have to click on yes or no to qt 6, it's not the same as the others where you just save as qt movie...come one geniuses

Ok I managed to get mwsf04 now, but mwny01 is a whole different story, I can watch it but not save.
