Classic takes about 5 minutes to launch on my computer. It's really quite ridiculous. I have X and 9.2.1 on separate partitions and I tried reformatting the 9.2.1 partition and just installing my classic apps there but it didn't help. It'll get to the first extension icon and just stay there for a while. The next icon to load is apple guide. After that, it still takes a while longer but the longest time is between starting the launch and the apple guide extension. Are there some extensions I should disable? Anyone know what extensions are absolutely required to run 9.2? Please help... I'm at a loss. TIA

That first forever-taking extension os Open Transport, and you need it if you want network services at all.
Classic takes forever on my machine too...
c'est la vie

Mine takes about 40 - 50 seconds to launch, and I don't have many 3rd party extensions.

Certain things arent' required in Classic, so, open the Extensions Manager and select the Base set of extension and your printer drivers, if needed. Also disable Apple Guide.
That should seriously speed up the launch time.

RAM is very important... My classic Doubled after I added more ram... my friends apple with Alot of RAM starts classic up Real Fast.. his finder moves at breakneck speeds too...
I tried adding the "startup doubler" extention into nines control/extentions but it doesnt really do anything...
Get RAM....

Well, I've got 384 megs in my ibook 500. That should be plenty... Anyway, I tried gordy's suggestion of paring down my classic extensions and it seems to have worked. I swear I tried that before and things got really flaky. Actually, I remember what it was. When I booted into 9.2 with my pared down extension set I'd get an error when I tried to shut down that an application wouldn't quit even though the finder was the only thing running. I was too busy to troubleshoot with something like conflict catcher so I just left them all on. I haven't rebooted into 9.2 yet to see if the problem remains. Anyway, I'll just stay with this set until something comes up... Thanks for the suggestions.

I just now timed it. This is on a dual 500 G4 with 832 MB RAM. My classic extension set is trimmed down real nice!
