You see, DVD-RW is "DVD" minus "RW" which means that the drive once had the ability to ReWrite but no longer does due to an act of God or terrorism.

DVD+RW is just the opposite, it's "DVD" plus "RW" which means the drive has the added feature of being able to ReWrite.

DVD-RW is one of the competing standards developed by Pioneer. It probably represents the best compromise in compatibility, price and capacity. It's the format with the most new adoptees right now.

DVD+RW is primarily developed by HP, with backing from Sony and Ricoh. It has lesser capacity, but better compatibility with older DVD players.

However, Sony has been putting DVD-RW drives in its VAIO computers, so you can pretty much count out DVD+RW, barring some miracle.

DVD-RAM still has its niche, as it's very usable for data. It works just like any other removeable disk. And the media is protected by a cartridge.

ok, I start to see the light at the end of the tunnel. By the way, I know DVD-RAM and what i want to get would be something like DVD-RW (or DVD+RW... or both) combo with DVD-RAM on firewire interface from QPS.
