What version of OSX are you using? What type of Windows machines(NT, 98 etc) r u trying to connect to?

I am having this problem too.
I am running Windows98 and MacOSX 10.1.1
I installed Samba X 2.2.2

I can configure Samba through SWAT but I still can't see the shared volume under Windows.
Don't have much experience with Windows so I may be missing something obvious.

Can't promise this will help but, on another board a month ago or so people were discussing problems connecting to windows from OS X. The problem turned out to be on the windows side. If you installed NETBIOS or something similar sounding then the connections worked fine.
Apparently this is not installed by default on all windows machines.
Then again, this may be extraneous information.

I think Neutrino is talking about the NetBEUI protocol. It's a networking protocol installable within Windows, like TCP/IP or IPX/SPX.

I've successfully used SMB to connect to Win2k machines. You have to connect to an established share on a Windows machine. Then the link would look like:
SMB://x.x.x.x/share
or
SMB://MachineName/share
