Have you seen her in Boston Public? Those tight jeans... :yum:

Back on track... :o
I would have one if it had a bigger HD...I am not two thirds through my CD collection and already have more than 6 GB worth of tunes...no sense buying it if I cannot have all of them on there with room to spare...

Too bad for me, huh...

EiGhT! Basically, if Apple makes it I seem to buy it sooner or later. This time its sooner. Mine's a Christmas present from wifey-poo. She knows nothing of computers except that I love all things Macintosh. She told me to go get one for myself for Christmas but that she'd wrap it up until the 25th. Hehehe, I gave her an empty box to wrap and have been secretly playing with my iPod for two weeks now. Of course I'll have to explain myself come Christmas Day, but when she gets her present I have a feeling all will be forgiven. ;) If a man's stomach is the route to his heart, its diamonds for a woman. :) After putting up with me for 13 1/2 years she deserves something extravagant.

Number 11...Treating mine like a little baby, had it nearly a month and not a scratch on it...

murbot
12-19-2001, 01:16 PM
About the scratch thing... these things are SOOOO scratch-prone it's unreal! I had mine for less than a day and it had several light scratches on it.
In fact, I was looking at it after taking it out of my winter jacket's inside pocket, and thought I saw a scratch. I wiped it straight up and down once, then in a semi-circle with the side of my pinky finger, and guess what? I had scratches going straight up and in an ark exactly where I had just rubbed.

Turns out I had some rough skin on that finger I didn't know about... (I completely forgot about my manicure appointment... ;) )

For the next half day, all I could do was think about that damn scratch.

So, I sold the thing! (as used, and I did disclose that "you can tell it's been used - it's been in and out of my pocket a few times") Turns out these are extremely hard to get in parts of Canada right now.... which was good for me!

I bought it for $572 CDN (I get great deals from a reseller I buy all my Macs from) and sold it for $585. OK, so I lost a few bucks on tax... but I made up for part of it with shipping - it ended up being less than we thought it would be.

So I'm getting a second chance on a scratch free iPod for about $20 CDN. What's the first thing I'm going to do?

BUY A CASE.

I've got two friends and a co-worker who each have one, if that counts. Not sure if we're counting who at AI has iPods or if we are counting iPods sold.

I'm guessing we're counting iPods that have been adopted to a good home.

If so, we're up to 16.

Joined the iPod club on Saturday.... Ordered the Waterfield sooper dooper cover on Sunday, used it while I did the dishes on Monday.... and havent seen it since my daughter took it with a great big grin on her face. She was blown away to think that she could have a such a cool MP3 player (she had her Rio 800 stolen and she likes the iPod much better anyway), and have the functionality which allowed her to drag her homework onto the iPod disk and take it to school there for downlaod and printing.

You know, I kind of wish I was that young againg too....... but my real plan is to let her have it and convince my wife to let me buy the next revison (hopefully 10gig) for myself!1

cheers

After much debate, (see 'should i buy an iPod or wait?' under current hardware) I decided to get one. It came in yesterday. This has to be the coolest mp3 player I have ever used. It kicks the nomad's ass. As far as capacity...well, if I want to change songs on the road, I guess I'll have to remember to take my iBook with me. Either way, I'm very happy with the purchase. Very cool.

This makes me 31

I also used it today to help convince my boss his next computer should be a Mac (see "PC versus Mac eternal war" thread in the Current Hardware area).

Although, I bought it the week of release. I just noticed this thread, also. Obviously, it is a 5GB model, and it has more scratches than I would prefer (I prefer FLAWLESS). Not too bad though...I have taken good care of it. Usually, it stay attached to my computer to save my music collection (now way over 5GB..so a lot of my colection) off my computer's HD. It is great, and I use it on trips and while working or studying a lot. GO iPOD!! :)

I went into a store about 3 days after Macworld and I was too impatient to wait for the new ones so I talked to guy down $100 for an old 10GB and free carry case and he only charged me 7% tax instead of %15.

I haven't had a Mac for 11 months and that was an iMacG3400... (Long story)

p.s. I was worried I wouldn't like the new iPod "wheel", but all I have to say is that it is the freakin’ coolest thing I've ever seen/used. (Well... aside from my Mac).

He is very happy with it.

OT: I went to the local best buy (Washington, DC Pentagon City) and they had tons of MP3 players, but only one iPod left, a 10GB Mac model. And, they had two or three shelves with iPod price labels on them. I was really impressed, they are selling really well! Also, it seems like every third or forth person I see walking around my campus (GW) listening to music has white iPod headphones leading into a bag or pocket...These are great products and I'm glad to see them selling so well!

114, I bought one when they first came out. it was a great mp3 player until the battery died. I'm considering buying a new one, but not sure if I want to pay 300 bucks for a toy that doesn't last for more then a year. 127, 5 GB. Love it, though a bit heavy for gym use.
I also use it as a PDA, with iCal and Address Book synchro. iSync works flawlessly from me. Best beta ever from Apple. Now if only iCal could be made (much!) more responsive, I'd be a happy camper.

My Girlfriend got me a 5 gig iPOD and I got to open it this Christmas Eve. It was awesome, but we went back to Apple SoHo and upgraded it for a 10 gig. It was the best present I got in a long while!

BTW, user guide says that I should only use its white Apple (6 pin) firewire cable. I am already using one FW cable for my scanner and another for my digital camera. I don't want to be plugging and unplugging all the time. Can I use my existing FW cables or can I use iPOD supplied 6 pin FW cable with my other FW peripherals? : :D

i got a 10 giger for $368 on that day after thanksgiving sale. it's damn cool.

marware carrying case with armband should be arriving any day.

i'd like to try jogging with it, but from all the posts i've read (mostly on the apple ipod forum) it's hit-or-miss whether it'll freeze up after the buffer runs out. seems like it depends on A) where on your body you keep it, and B) how "smooth" or "jerky" you run

a PC friend of mine is thinking about getting one (his first apple purchase), but he wants to try jogging with mine first.

Well, sorta... Apple posted some information about converting Windows-compatible iPods to Macintosh format, but the process requires a reformatting of the hard drive in the device, thereby deleting all of your songs. If you have a way of transferring the MP3 files between your current PC and your soon-to-be Mac (read: OS X 10.2 has native Windows file-sharing capiblities so you should be fine) before you convert the iPod, then you'll have no problems when you get your new Mac system. See question #9 in Apple Knowledge Base Article 60920. Note, though, that MacWorld San Francisco is just around the corner, and if Apple were to do any updates to the iPod line, MWSF would be the time they would do it. Just in case they do update the iPod, you're probably better off waiting until after January 6th to make your purchase.

Now I have to decide weather I can reasonably fork over $370 for one of these puppies...

Been trying to get a 10 or 20GB iPod in UK for last two weeks via a dealer (MacWarehouse type). The two main suppliers in the UK who the dealers get their gear from - Ingram Micro and Computer 2000 - are both out of stock of any sized Mac iPods. Coincidence?

One of them (Comp 2k) told my dealer today that it was 'because of the Chinese new Year!!' - I actually overheard the conversation.

Does this suggest a revamp in the Apple version?

Note: Apple (UK) store have a 5-7 days lead time. I know there may be some available in other places but have reasons for going through my dealer. There are loads of Windows versions about.

So they gave us an iBook instead, and we've now been told that we are going to get the iPod as well! I believe it's a 5 GB one, so it appears that there are still some around.

Edit. On that note, I'd better change my location. Internship form going in soon...
