Could we please when we go to the new board then, have some new smiles??

I'd suggest at least these:

-an apple shaped smile (or all set apple shaped)
(something like this http://images.bravenet.com/brpics/smilie/apple.gif )

- http://images.bravenet.com/brpics/smilie/censored.gif
- and of course this: http://images.bravenet.com/brpics/smilie/kissing.gif

These would be some that i think would be cool and useful...

Now what about the others??
Anyone wants any new smiles??

A tongue in cheek smilie would be useful.
Also, a smilie to indicate sarcasm.

Why add more to the current AI when it won't be around much longer?

Um, that's not what MB said...

I'm trying to work out what a sarcasm smiley looks like, though. <img src="confused.gif" border="0">

I'll make do with a board that doesn't go down to software or server problems every six weeks, thanks. Not a slam on the mods or web master - just that I think smilies are, shall we say, not a major priority at this point.

Sure it is. Aesthetics are key. :p

I was promised iChat icons, where are my friggin iChat icons? :D

ok of course its more essential that the system dont break every 2 weeks and block new registerings for months.

but the aesthetics are not irrelevant.

so why not to add some new smiles when opening the new version?

post your suggestions...

Speaking of aesthetics, those smileys are cheesy and ugly.

Please god no.

I would like to see, however, an entirely new smiley set, possibly based on the iChat smilies (and in alpha PNG so they blend all nice without being pixelized-looking, a fad long gone IMHO.. but that's another rant). We could rip the iChat icons and customize them just enough for it not to really be copyright infringement, and then make some more with rolling eyes and smoking a joint and shaking its head and all of that. Maybe.

Or leave things how they are, for all I care. Just don't add all of the cheesy, obscure smileys.. if you want to use those, MB, you go right ahead, girl!

Good luck with those animated .png's.

Actually I think that is the main reason they are sticking with pixelated crap. The lack of a good, animated file format with an alpha channel (greater than 2-bit, more like 8-bit a la png/tiff. I know there are some, but none are mainstream.)

We tested them and the colors really clashed with the rest of AI. Plus, as tiffs or pngs, they will not be visible in all browsers nor cn they be animated.

On the other hand, though, I started work on a brand new set of smilies based on the current "style" of the UBB ones. They had the same characteristics but contained slight gradients and were antialiased.

http://brad.project-think.com/ai/navigatorscreensnapz004.png

They were mostly complete and the rolleyes and tongue were already animated, but Jonathan thought that the masses would not approve. So, I'm mothballing these and their PSDs and for now we plan on sticking with the current UBB smilies.

Hey, those kissing smileys dont have bows to differentiate male from female! i think we should add bows for the girl smileys... they'd kinda like ms pacman.

:) "can i have a pink bow please?"

Most levitated Installer....

As and when threads turn gay surely a smiley would be altaegither insufficient - what is needed is a proper icon- a gay icon in fact. I wid suggest the unsurpassable Kenneth Williams or Rock Houston or Quentin McCrisp, or one o' those fellas; and a gayometer with a needle indicating the level o' gayness attained by the discourse in progress.

nice idea belle....but asking brad to make this??? knowing his (and i use the term loosely) "taste", this smiley has a high likelyhood of turning out more porno than artistic....now i would love some smileys in the style of Hieronymus Bosch...weeee, that would be fun....g
