There's an interesting thread at MacNN where a number of normally very staid and sensible forum members are convinced that a G4 iBook is imminent.
Adding fuel to the fire: Ingram Micro has no iBooks in stock now, having just reduced its stock to 0.
Here's the latest page of the discussion, as it is quite long:

<img src="graemlins/oyvey.gif" border="0" alt="[No]" /> Just how often was this talked about.
G4 iBook is not going to happen before G5 iMac. G5 iMac is not going to happen before G5 PowerBook. G5 PowerBook is not going to happen before G5 PowerMac and / or G5 XServe.
G5 is a general term "PowerPC Generation 5" that may or may not include the PPC 970.

a 600 & 700 iBook does what if the iMac stay at 800 and 1.ghz G4? I don't see the logic behind your theory.

I don't see why not. We currently have G4s in the PowerMac and iMac families. Sure, for now the PowerMac line is all dual, but for about 6 months we had single G4 iMacs and single G4 PowerMacs, with only one dual machine. Apple obviously doesn't differentiate lines by processor type.

I, too, have read the thread. VERY interresting, indeed. Please read it <a href="http://forums.macnn.com/showthread.php?s=b3eb99deec92e5420aeb633cd7a89ff1&threadid=128279&pagenumber=3" target="_blank">here.</a>
