However, you can set a maximum amount for the PCs themselves to use. Select the PC in the Virtual PC List window, click the Settings button, and select the PC Memory Settings option.

Yeah, planetside is really neat, but it does kind of get old quickly, I;d imagine most people are just going to play the free month, then maybe one or two subsequent months, then never play again.

Cheaper alternative to Planetside: Musical chairs.

That's all planetside is
you capture a base, abandon it and move to another
meanwhile - another team caps the base you were just at.
so you capture it back

rinse.
repeat.

There are only 20 Battle Ranks (experience levels) and you can easily attain level 20 in a week of playing.

They say they're going to add more stuff.
yeah, well - you shouldn't ship a game that still needs stuff to be fun to begin with
=)

although - it's fun to just drop in and kill stuff in.
But not worth a monthly fee, that's for sure.
You can get that from Quake.

Just wait until EQMac comes out.

Waaaayyyyy more stuff to do.

EQ is a bore. But think about Quake, its just repetition, and Planetside is LOADED with features. I think ill stick with liking planetside, i played EQ it sucks.

World of Warcraft anyone???

:)

The beta should be out in the next month or so, and since your a mac user sign up and pray that you get in... or at least thats my plan. I beta'd Planetside and it was weak! Right now my brother is in the StarWars Galaxies beta and that looks good but I think WoW will beat them all. Though I really want Turbine to make its engine mac compatible so that Middle Earth Online and D&D Online come to mac.

Hehehe... I wish. They said in one of their E3 interviews that beta will start within a month and here is the best news about this game:

Reviewer from a WoW fansite was playing the game during E3 sayng how great the game played and how smooth it was and then in the end said he noticed he was playing on a mac the whole time! I can't wait to play an mmorpg that comes out at the same time as the pc counterpart and runs just as fast!

Well, if/when the OS X version of Real PC comes out with video hardware support, you might be able to play PlanetSide then if you have a really good graphics card. These days, games seem to need more GPU rather than CPU power to run well, so emulating x86 code shouldn't be too much of a problem if you also have a reasonable CPU. Although, its probably still too soon to tell how it'd perform since Real PC isn't out yet; I have high hopes for it, though.

Tell me more about RealPC. It allows video hardware support? How good is it? My video card is the one that came in the 17 inch PB is that good enough?

TIA

As I've said, there's really no way to know because its not even out yet. It should be out in July but may not be called "Real PC;" I think they're wanting to call it "PowerWindows" but Microsoft may have something to say about them using "Windows" in the name. All I know about it comes from a few quotes in this interview. (http://www.macbidouille.com/article.php?id=112&page=3) However, I'd imagine you'd need alot of RAM because PlanetSide needs a minimum of 512MB, Windows needs a minimum of 128MB, and MacOS X a minimum of 256MB--a total of 896MB so it'd probably be best to just max it out with 1GB of RAM.

Again, there's still no way to know how it'd perform on your system or any other system since its not out yet; I'm just making a reasonable guess as to what you'd need if your system were to be able to run PlanetSide decently--you may want to wait for a few reviews or reports from other Mac users as to how Windows games perform on their systems through emulation.

Anyway, I hope this helps some and answers some of your questions.

My biggest pet peeves on macs are: lack of GOOD games (planetside, counter-strike to name a few) and windows media player. I know it doesnt work well but 50% of the media on the internet is WMP.

rightly so.. I want counter strike so bad... I got a good game going once playing through remote desktop once to my pc :) hehe at the airport was pinging at like 1200 tho..
I'm not overly concerned about WMP.. I mean if you're into porn, or downloading pirated music then yeah by all means. but quicktime saves my @$$ everyday when I work, they made it just so easy.

So is there any other solutions to play planetside?

Oh no... It's one of those "f*** s*** c*** mother**** a** f*****" CS players. Get over CS. Get a life. Get a boyfriend. There is ZERO point to being a gay CS player (because, as we all know, CS is ghey) when you don't get any anal action dude.

The question is, why would you want to? The only WiMP9 content is lame MPAA/RIAA ads and trash loaded with DRM.

Everywhere I have to use Windows Media I also have the option to use Real Player and sometimes Quicktime...

There is a reason Windows now has the option to remove media player, because it just plain sucks and they got too many complaints about it.

As for you, Barto, I cant think of anything to say to you. Maybe the best insult that i could tell u would be for you to read your own post over carefully and think about how stupid what you said was.

Anyway,
thanks
