They are just about the best donuts on the planet if not the best. They are perfect when they are just made. "Hot Now"

As a WA state transplant to NC, I got indoctrinated to the Church of Krispy Kreme as the very first thing. No, seriously. Crossed the VA/NC border, and the very first stop was the KK in downtown Raleigh, at Peace and Person.

I now live 5 minutes from there.

Why I haven't gained 50lbs, I have no idea.

In school i was officially known as the "Krispy Kreme" guy.... brought boxes of em everyday.

I actually saved the boxes and filled up lockers in the locker room with them... pretty funny, but perhaps thats why roaches the size of rats were found in the lockerroom :\

When our 11-12 little league team started to "gel" into a fighting unit and we started to believe that we were winners the coach convinced our parents and/or our little league association to let us buy ourselves new uniforms. To help allay the costs we spent half a Saturday sprinkled around one part of the county, teamed up to sell boxes of Krispy Kremes at intersections. I still remember that warm Summer morning, the mist hanging in the air at our sleepy country intersection....the soft whooshy sound of approaching cars...the cicadas in the trees starting to clatter into their buzzsaw racket. Almost every adult that stopped smiled, even if they weren't buying a box.

It was an important part of a true Southern childhood. Knowing that the rest of the country now eats "our" Southern doughnuts pulls a twang of jealousy somewhere down in my soul....it's like the rest of the world is trying to horn in on "our thing". If I had grown up in Winston-Salem I'd be an insufferable bastard about it~

To taste a Krispy Kreme doughnut is to grasp something that is beyond the realm of mortality.

Although it is only a rare occasion for me to feel this joy, I must say that the experience of a Krispy Kreme doughnut is more amazing than winning the lottery & conquering mount Everest, while having fantastic sex with two gorgeous runway models (who happen to be twins that don’t speak a word of english) all while high on LSD (which enforces that wonderful feeling that you are in fact, God)

Krispy Kreme is the highest realm of consciousness & enlightenment a human can achieve, and is sacred beyond all other things.

That is why while in the process of writing this, it was imperative for me to bathe in fresh spring water and sacrifice two goats before I could type the holy words “Krispy Kreme”

They opened a KK about 45 minutes from me, first in Canada, about 1.5 years ago. They had massive lineups everyday for a couple weeks, and still had huge lines on weekends (I mean like 1/2 to 1hour waits) for months after they opened. Rumour was that the franchise holder did enough in sales the opening week or weekend to potentially pay the full frnachise cost. I think the one guy or company holds the rights for all of Canada, or at least all of eastern Canada. I went once after the lines up slowed down, but honestly didn't see the big deal. Just more fried dough. They opened one up about 6 months ago about 10 minutes from my house. I have yet to visit. The massive lineups lasted about a week and since then, whenever I go by, they are basically empty. Guess the novelty has worn off.

I live in Denver and we have some Krispy Kreme stores but i like Lamar's Donuts a little better. Both have great donuts-don't get me wrong I love Krispy Kreme-it's just that I like the thicker ones at Lamar's better. Does anyone know of Lamar's? I think that they are based out of Kansas City. NOt quite sure though.

Sorry, but like most donuts they have two halflives, the first occurs a 30 minutes, the second is 12 hours, so unless the delivery system for worldwide packages gets to be much much better, you are better off flying to NYC, going to PENN Station, buying a donut that the station KKD and flying back...

I tried them, good, but nothing you can't get at Tim's by just getting a warm honey glazed. Seems the trick was in sefving 'em warm. Tim's has already caught on, and even changed the layout of their box (in some stores) to match the lay 'em flat KK box as oppossed to the stack'em upright traditional box.

Actually, I've eaten at the Tim Horton's in Oakville *and* Mississauga. Do I get a cookie? Or a 970? :)

Two things I do agree with, though:

1. Tim Horton's makes the best damn coffee around. Period. All you Starbucks geeks can stick your half-caf mocha lattes in your ear.
2. There is no reason to ever travel to Mississauga. I was only there because the series I worked on rented studio space in the area... actually, just down the street from the Tim Horton's.

Oh, and a true "Value Meal" in Canada is not a burger, fries and a Coke. It's a chicken salad sandwich, coffee and a maple donut. :)

Not only of the icon but of the fact that they just opened a Krispy Kreme shop about 10 minutes down the road from me, and I drive by it not once but TWICE a day and still cannot find time to stop in there. I work on Saturday so maybe I'll drop in then. One of the ladies I work with has a birthday on the 21st, so maybe I'll surprise her and the rest of the crew with a box of Krispy Kremes. Clients can have the el-cheapo Walmart doughuts this weekend!

I wasn't actually talking about you thinking my reactions are knee-jerk, but those who tend to jump to your defense even if you're not being attacked ... or something like that. I know you are totally OK with people disagreeing with your ideas. And so I shall at various points I'm sure, as you will disagree with mine.

By the way, Timbits ROCK. I remember Timbits hockey on "Hockey Day in Canada" this spring. Was a truly proud moment for me. I only wish I could've had one of my nephews or nieces out there so they could've brought home a box of them for me.
