View Full Version : noisy 'new' G4?
Hi there,
ive been waiting for the G5 to come. real happy about it but too pricey for me:(
They also introduced some new G4s.. i know these models are somewhat older (aug 02) and i understand that there was a lot of loud noise complaints about it back then.
Is it safe for me to buy one of those G4 1,25 (mdd) or are they still too noisy ?
hope they solved the problem or i hope theres an easy solution to this.
thanks.

I just snagged a new G4 1.25 dualie.
The noise levels seem okay to me.
I think the earlier MDD models had the extreme noise problems.
Oh, yes. I went and got a G4. $1599 for the dualie at the Apple store.
Probably get laughed at. :(

It has 256 MB PC2700 ram.
The Apple store wanted $150 for a 256 MB stick. I said no thanks.
Ordered some from Crucial. 512 MB for $65 plus free 2 day shipping. :)
It has a 80 GB HD. A bit small but easy to add another.
No Superdrive but it seems like the retail drives will work. $175 for one at Newegg.com.
I just wish they would make a retail version of the 9700 Pro.
You can get the GeForce Ti 4600 but its outrageously priced at $399. :(

I believe ATI is going to make a retail version of the 9800 Pro that works in a 4x slot.

Oh please let that be true. :)
There is enough of a market for ATI to come out with either a 9700 or 9800 Pro card.
I will keep my fingers crossed. :)

Apple no longer offer them.
I have a feeling yields were not real good on those and the chips were kind of pricey.
It was 700 bucks more than the 1.25 dualie. It did include a Superdrive and a bit more ram and HD.
I think the 1.25 was the better deal.
I think its pretty decent for $1599.
