From the Mac OS X Update Combined:

"Updated and new USB and FireWire device support, including FireWire-based digital cameras"

Something along the lines of "wwwwhhaATTT!?" came from my mouth when I read that.

I was unable to find any third party Firewire digital cameras.

You mean like my Olympus E-10 firewire digital camera?

Someone already started this thread a few weeks back because they were unaware of firewire digital cameras.

didn't look hard enough. they have them on display every macworld expo at the apple booth.

I believe sony, kodak, and nikon make firewire digital cameras. they are only in their pro lines though (very expensive)

Is the Canon EOS 1D not FireWire?

Seems I got my Olympus and Sony DV firewire mixed up. The Olympus is USB, my apologies :(

The Canon EOS-1D does have a FireWire port, and it's the best digital SLR on the market right now.

Don't be fooled by the Nikon D1x's larger resolution photos. The Nikon interpolates vertical resolution...lord knows why...and the CCD is physically smaller than the Canon's.

I would do anything for a Canon EOS-1D...

For several years, Kodak's DCS (professional) digital cameras have all come with FireWire connections. So, it's nothing new.

Hey Eugene, have you had any personal experience with the Nikon or the Canon ? I was close to getting the Nikon but was interested in your post.

Don't diss the CCD of the very reasonably priced PowerShot G2...

Check out these images!

If you have a PowerBook, you can download images via your PCMCIA slot, which should be pretty snappy.

I've been waiting forever for a good, affordable digital camera with plenty of storage space, and if Apple doesn't release a camera in January, I'm buying a G2 and 1GB Microdrive.

Right now the Canon EOS 1D is the cream of the crop. It's also priced accordingly (the Nikon D1X is in the same price range).

Check out www.dpreview.com for EOS-1D and D1x comparisons. The EOS-1D was reviewed very recently. the only major flaw at this point is a vertical banding issue that will most likely be fixed with a firmware update.

Over-all, it has superior vertical resolution and photos are less noisy and much sharper.

The real bonus of Firewire connectivity would be to connect an iPod to camera to store images on the move..... and of course speedy d/l to Mac :)

Anyone know of a way to connect USB to firewire for such use on an iPod?? ie USB to Firewire connector...
