As some of you may or may not know, I'm currently working on my dissertation in clinical psychology. I'm doing a treatment outcome study on web-based interventions for marital discord and for my background and significance section, I need some "history of the Internet" type stuff. Nothing too technical and I could probably rattle off half of what I'd include by heart, but dissertation committees like citations for some strange reason.....

Can anyone point me in the right direction for some history? Preferably peer reviewed stuff because that tends to be easier to slide past a committee, but texts are fine too. And I REALLY REALLY need some current usage stats. I can't for the life of me find a decent place to look for that stuff. One exception is the netcraft stats on webserver technologies. I like putting in that Apache is the majority webserver and IIS is losing ground ;) Any pointers? TIA.

http://inventors.about.com/library/inventors/blinternet.htm has even screenshots of Tim Berners-Lee first browser.

Berners-Lee has a short personal description of the beginnings here (http://www.w3.org/People/Berners-Lee/ShortHistory.html).

Did you check this (http://directory.google.com/Top/Computers/Internet/History/)?
