Check out their revolutionary 17" laptop.

Maybe it's a tribute, not a ripoff.

No, it's a ripoff.

is this a real company?

It seems so fake... at-least they haven't figured out the real Apple font

Like the Seinfeld episode, its a bizarro-Apple site!

Mr Beardsley

Its a fake. They say you can get a 4 GHz P4 by October 2003. That's not real.

I just ordered a laptop and desk top from them. I am selling my 12 inch Powerbook and my G5.

About the typeface- I could be mistaken, but it sure looks like Lucida Grande. Y'know, the system font for OS X. And yeah, they're a for-real company.

By the way my previous post was as fake as that site seemed. No PC manufacturer makes such nice machnes.

SCHWEET JEEBUS! (http://www.go-l.com/desktops/machl38/features/index.htm) :wow: I bet you could ovetclock that thing pretty good. I still want (and have "shipping soon") a G5. But in PC terms that is pretty cool.

Check out the graphics here:

http://www.go-l.com/technology/index.html

http://www.go-l.com/_images/italkt.jpg http://www.go-l.com/_images/teamchatt.jpg

They state on the same page that:

Since creativity and innovation are associated with open-minds and breaking from the "traditional", at we believe real productiveness comes from learning attentively with others' feats, not from looking at their mistakes. And since we trust in doers more than in talkers, we've built an unique group of team players from every imaginable business field to get inspired by their individual talent, commonly obsession with making the computer products.

Are they gunning for Apple? Oh, yeah. They never say it, but they steal the Finder logo outright - twice! And they've replaced the crack-smoking speed freak who writes Apple's copy with a crack-smoking speed freak who has a tenuous grasp of the English language.

They say imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. :) These look like perfectly capable PCs (and the claimed 2,800 performance enhancements to Windows XP might mean that you actually notice the speed of the P4s they ship), and it's nice to see Apple acknowledged this baldly as a trendsetter.

Consider it a homage, not a rip-off. :) It's not like there aren't a million others out there who've already done it. Besides, the main header looks more like XP's title bar than a Mac. :p

"Miracously engineered" - Means: We stuffed a desktop in a laptop.
"1.7in" thick" - Means: Way too thick
"Choose a model, News Ticker" - Copied from Apple
"3.20Ghz P4" - Has to be desktop model, there goes batt. life and portability
"Choice of optical drive" - Means: You can even choose the CD-ROM model no one wants
"Free-flow cooling technology" - Means: a fancy name for nothing
"120W Power supply" - Means: A ton. My iBook is at under 75 iBelieve.
"Weight: 7.9lbs" - Means: Ooof!

Maybe not, but they do possess the most expensive:

Power Mac G5: $1999-$2999USD (pre-configured models)
MachL 3.8GHz: $3999-$7799USD (also pre-configured)

Plextor has an 8x DVD±RW drive. PX-708A (http://www.plextor.com/english/products/708A.html)

3.8 GHz is supposed to be achieved via an FSB overclock from 200 MHz to ~238 MHz.

128-bit most likely refers to Intel SSE2.

This is all doable. My Windows PC is OC'd from 2.4 GHz to 2.9 GHz with nothing but a Swiftech heatsink and a very low volume fan. I'm sure I could push it well into the 3 GHz range with one of those new monster Thermalright heatsinks + a 92 mm high volume fan.

Well I just called their toll-free store number and got a plain old answering machine instructing me to call back during "regular business hours". 9-6 M-F, 10-3 Sat, PST.

So their order department closes every day at 3PM Eastern?! :wow:

The answering machine then let me leave an actual message "at the sound of the tone"!

Fake? Joke? Scam? Incredibly poorly executed launch? Anyone with any real experience with this "company"?

P.S. Their "vast crew of young talented creative people" apparently does not include a copyeditor as their site is absolutely riddled with spelling and grammatical errors.

All of this adds to the excitement and surprise every time you take your new computer out of the box, because you will not know what it will look like, till then. Only that it will be as unique as you are. No matter how many computers we make, yours will look like no other© :err:

I showed this site to someone I know, and he replied we have one in the office!!!

Not that brand exactly, but under a different name. It was dirt cheap, and has a built in webcam built into the screen.

Supposedly the producer is quite large, so as far as them being innovative as far as design that might not be the case. All they have done is put a logo on it!

09-25-2003, 09:16 PM

In their "About" butt-ugly Flash presentation go to "D.N.A."...

It states that of over a 100 developers working in the company 20% are "Apple/Mac developers"...???

Their boss seems to have been in the Movie/TV business and was frustrated with the lack of performance of most computer systems of that time... Apple hater/snubber? You decide. :smokey:

Plus I've seen this "template" before. They didn't even bother to create their own buttons and product boxes because they took it off a premade template! So, they're ripping off Apple and also too lazy to create their own buttons and graphics. Jeesh!

For the record, at least some of their hardware design is outsourced. A company by the name of Clevo is the ODM (Original Design Manufacturer) of their laptops, which are then rebranded by companies like http://Eurocom.com.

It's probably also worth mentioning that their flagship 17" monster would be lucky to get even close to 2 hours of battery life, particularly judging by the specs:

- Non-mobile CPU design (it's a desktop variant of the P4, not the Pentium-M chip that is part of the Centrino branding)

- Very fast system bus (by mobile standards)

- 7200 rpm hard drive in a laptop? *chuckles*

- 433 MHz DDR - errr, did a new standard come along when I wasn't looking? AMD is going to have enough problems relating to the requirement of registered 400 MHz DDR for their new AMD Athlon 64 FX chips...

All of the above criticism relating to battery power notwithstanding, it's a rather nice looking choice if you want to have a portable high-end gaming PC for LAN parties, etc. Rather amusing listening to them patting their backs for something they didn't even design though.
