None of my macs will mount my ipod. I have a G5 2.0 and a 17"laptop, but neither will let the Ipod mount. I plugged it into my laptop and at first it came up on the desktop and in ITunes, but immediately disappeared. I've done the menu/play button reboot on the ipod and the Ipod is fine, its just like the computer will no longer accept it. Thanks in advance, for any replies.

My first thought is it is a software issue, but I am not at all sure and have no real idea of how you would go about fixing this issue. Sounds funny but it could be the firewire port? Call Apple tech support. 1800 MY APPLE

I thought about that, but I have several other firewire devices that work fine. Hopefully tech support will be able to help. Thanks.

EXACTLY the same problem with me (15" AluPB). I was trying to Verify/Repair Disk the iPod using Disk Utility like ipodandimac (I think) suggested in another thread. But when I plugged in my 'Pod, I realised that it only appeared on the Desktop for a few seconds. iPod updates OK in iTunes but the volume doesn't stay on the Desktop.

I don't know what to do. Did you find a solution?

go to iTunes...have your iPod connected...hit the iPod icon on the bottom of iTunes, this opens the iPod preferences...make sure Enable Disk Use is checked...then the iPod should stay up on disk utility

The problem with that is that the Ipod button in Itunes doesn't show up unless the Ipod will mount, which it isn't doing.

QUICK UPDATE:

I got mine to work again after running Ipod Software Updater 2.1, restoring the Ipod to original settings, effectively wiping clean and reinstalling it's software. Once I opened the updater, the updater recognized the ipod even though it still would'nt mount. After restoring, quit the installer and replug the ipod in. It worked for me, so hopefully it will work for others.
