KerrySpot on National Review makes note of strange new Kerry tactic. Kerry is going around claiming Bush has all sorts of "secret plans" that will come true if Bush is elected.

Also, do you feel like you're having a hard time catching up with all of Kerry's charges of "secret plans"?

He's charged Bush with having secret plan to call up more troops after the election.

Kerry has suggested that Bush has a secret plan to bring back the draft.

Blogger Slings and Arrows is on the "secret plan" beat, and has found that Kerry has accused Bush of having secret plans to privatize Social Security, wage nuclear war, cut social services, manipulate oil prices to benefit the Saudis, cut VA Benefits, cut Education Funding, and send jobs overseas.

Meanwhile, Kerry has refused to specify some of his foreign policy and economic proposals... because they're secret, and "as president there's huge leverage that will be available to me, enormous cards to play, and I'm not going to play them in public. I'm not going to play them before I'm president."

Could this be a case of projection?

Secret Plan 1 (http://www.stltoday.com/stltoday/news/stories.nsf/election2004/story/AFF2BC823F0DEF5086256F1300127220?OpenDocument&Headline=Bush+has+secret+plan+to+call+up+more+troo ps,+Kerry+charges)

It's a C-O-N... Spiracy (http://abcnews.go.com/wire/Politics/ap20040922_1296.html)

Lots of secrets (http://slingsnarrows.erudite-absurdity.com/archive/002629.html)

Kerry's got some secrets (http://www.nationalreview.com/kerry/kerry200408020840.asp)

Strange sort of thing going on. Bush can talk about his proposals, but Kerry alleges there are secret proposals behind the real proposals. Kerry has to keep talking about Vietnam or rely exclusively on criticizing Iraq because his own proposals are secret.

I can tell you, lots of people spin various sort of ads or actions smacking of desperation and I usually write them off, but this really does smack of desperation to me. I mean claiming all sorts of secret things are going to happen and continually alleging odd sorts of things while not being able to show your own cards really is strange reasoning. It makes me thing that Kerry knows he isn't electable and his ideals aren't either.

I don't think any of those are "secret". Powell has indicated that the rumors of a post-election offensive in Iraq are true. Bush has cut VA spending. He's promised to cut all non-defense spending, without saying there's an exception for education, so an OMB memo supporting that is hardly a surprise. It's obvious to most informed observers that we can't indefinitely maintain troop levels in Iraq without expanding the army by some means or another, especially with the Army now wanting to cut the length of Iraq tours in half. The proposal to prepare for a resumption of nuclear testing and to begin development of new nuclear weapons is very much in the public. The bit about sending jobs overseas is from an administration economic report. Etc, etc, etc.

No secrets here.
