I know nothing grander, better exercise, better digestion, more positive proof of the past, the triumphant result of faith in human kind, than a well-contested American national election.
~Walt Whitman
In other words, although Bush winning is unfortunate IMHO, I'm glad there was a substantial increase in voter turnout in a closely contested election. Several states even set records for number of people voting.

Ok, so more people showed up at the polls.
The question is, how many had their brains switched "on"
eh?

Hey, at least they showed up. Considering that >90% of registered party members vote along party lines across the board, not many had their brains on...

All kidding aside,
Isn't it sad that a higher turnup, so more democracy so to speak does not necessarily mean that as "sensible" ( as in, considering the "brillant" record of the GWB I administration ) decision is made.
Generally speaking, I don't have high hopes that we'll be looking at a peacefull and more secure world in the near and perhaps even distant future, the way things have been going...
Man! I'm starting to sound like friggin fear mongering Cheney!

Bush received more votes than any other candidate in US history. I think Kerry is now #2 and JFK #3.

I hate statistics like that, the population has grown since then, so it's to be expected. Every election should be more then any other candidate, but voting turnout has dropped over the last several years.

Relatively speaking, we had higher voter turnout in the 50s, I believe. Often as high as 70%. I've not seen a stat on what percentage of RVs turned out, but I doubt that it's 70%.

I found it interesting that before yesterday JFK held the record for decades even considering the population growth.
