View Full Version : Iraq: 4000 missiles missing

First it was the explosives - still (unaccounted for and at large in the war zone) now it seems that 4000 - 6000 surface to air (http://washingtontimes.com/upi-breaking/20041107-102112-9541r.htm) missiles are missing in action somewhere in Iraq.

U.S. analysts estimate 4,000 surface-to-air missiles, once under the control of Saddam Hussein, remain unaccounted for and could threaten aircraft.

Unaccounted for surface-to-air missiles outside government hands worldwide might total as many as 6,000, according to the analysts.

"We don't have a good estimate, some have put forward some figures, but there is none that the Defense Intelligence Agency has confidence in," said an official. "There is no evidence that they have left the country (Iraq)."

Could threaten aircraft....no evidence they have left the country.....

And no investigation as to how it could happen.

It's just a joke now - except it's not funny.

Yessir! And Saddam... he had this wormhole built by fairies underground, y'see, and every time the inspectors came, the fairies would perform this Satanic ritual, causing the missiles to disappear to somewhere in the vicinity of Alpha Centauri.

Right?

I think it's legal where I live now. All you need is some quack to say you need to smoke for "medical" reasons.

Indeed. So instead of reflexively dismissing bad news as partisanship, when are you going to start showing some evidence that you actually give a shit about the well being of the troops you claim to support?

For that matter, when are you going to start showing some evidence that you actually give a shit about keeping weapons out of the hands of terrorists?

As you say, the election is over. It's time to talk seriously about what is happening in Iraq, and it's past time to pretend that the problems there are just a liberal invention to "get Bush".

Do you think missing surface to air missiles are a good thing? Do you think it doesn't matter? Who are you going to blame if a civilian jet gets shot out of the sky?

I thought you spoke for the tough minded conservative crowd that put America's safety above all, that would never be casual about "terrorist threats".

But you dismiss some pretty serious hardware going missing as "spin".

Maybe you can explain to me how we plan to fight a real war on terror if anything that goes wrong on Bush's watch is rejected out of hand as the sniping of liberals.

In other words, how do you prosecute a war when you consider reality to be a partisan attack?

Pay no attention to him. He represents the arch anti-American lunatic fringe who want to replace representative democracy with a corporate oligarchy.

That's right, and the war is still going on and a bunch of missiles have gone missing, and this would be true if the president were George Bush, John Kerry or Nelson Mandela.

You won, great, congrats, break out the Premier Cru, say a Hail Mary, we get it now, you're in charge, hooray.

Now, what about these missiles?

Actually, on second thoughts Common Man's on to something.

"You said you'd pick me up from work! Where were you?"
"Oh, who cares? The election's over."

"Hey, where's that $50 you owe me?"
"Duh. The election's over? Hello?"

"Dear Mr Man. Your dog is still shitting on my lawn. My children have to play on that lawn. I have asked you a thousand times. Please stop her."
"Oh piss of, the election is over who cares, signed Common Man esq age 15"

"How do you plead? Guilty or not guilty?"
"Your Honour. I submit that the election is over. Who cares?"

"HOW COULD YOU LEAVE ME FOR MY BEST FRIEND? I LOVE YOU! I'LL DIE WITHOUT YOU!"
"The election is over, my love. It's over. I'm sorry."

Translation: for all our strenuous posturing over the fate of the west in her epic, final battle against the forces of darkness as embodied by "islamo-facists", now that our man is safely ensconced within the oval office for another four years we could really give two fucks about who the enemy is, or how armed, or with what. We just like to say "terrorist, terrorist, terrorist" as an incantation to ward off evil liberals, but when it comes to the difficult particulars of how we actually prevent attacks on western interests we can't be bothered. Leaving the protection of America in the hands of people like us is suicidally short sighted, since once you get past sloganeering and photo-ops, we're really not smart enough to think very hard about much of anything, much less something as fraught with consequences as fighting a war on terror that obliges us to be very smart indeed. In fact, as a matter of principal, we consider "being smart" to be a character failing akin to homosexuality.

Whoops, the translation machine got stuck there......

Ouch! I hadn't thought of it like that.

"Our soldiers are threatened by terrorists. Our homeland is threatened by terrorists. We're making people angry and giving them the means to act on it."
"Oh, who cares about terrorists? We only banged on about that crap to win the election and now the election's over."

"Moe was very bad today, Moe Man Sr. He told me... he has a pottymouth."
"Blah blah blah, Rathergate, Explosivesgate, Missilegate, Tidyroomgate. Now piss off the pair of you, the election's over."

Before you attempt to dis the source, the data comes from that hotbed of anti-Bush sentiment the CIA and is presented by analysts from the Defense Intelligence Agency.

Why didn't you click on the link, Moe?

Sleep tight.

What anti-bush reports are wrong? I know there was "Rathergate," but really, 300 tons of explosives are missing, 400 missiles are missing. How are these facts wrong?
