Wow, a right-wing Christian wants to reserve the right to experiment with marijuana for himself? Lying is what Jesus did, right?
Of course, this is just another sign of his tremendous moral strength, right peanut gallery?

About the pot I don't see it as a big deal personally. However because he critisized Gore it's a matter of ethics.

Here's a link to basically the same thing from CNN.

So, did Bush inhale?
If people reckon this was such an issue for President Clinton, then it should be an equal one for Bush. But it won't be of course.
Common sense tells us that that this is a complete non-issue. If someone smokes pot in their own time, what business is it for anyone except the smoker?
Answer: it's nobody's damn business., period.
The issue is the double standards.

i find it interesting, because bush put in one of the most anti-pot dea's like ever, with like 0tolerance policies, and he, himself, has admitted to using. if he would have faced the wrath of his own admin for his admitted crime, it would be a little bit cooler.

Please, folks, your drool for this story is going to fry your Mac. "Here's a little something?" - this party has been on for awhile. Welcome. Monkey throw poo! It's OK, we all do it.
Anyone got a pic of Robert Byrd in his white robe? Or a pic of Marion Berry smoking crack? Or that blue dress? Bush probably smoked pot, did some smack, maybe even got tanked a few (hundred) times. "There is not one blameless among us" to be a "perfect president" or public official. Hypocrisy is rampant, not just with "them" but with US.
Dubya hit the Doobage? SELF-destructive behaviour to be sure, but at least he could keep it in his own pants and never wore a Klan uniform. Smoking a joint is not a federal crime like lying under oath or committing hate crimes.
And the war on substances (like pot, tobacco, and alcohol) is simply a way for the gubment to get money, nothing more. A ticket for two to Mena, please.
We can argue for days, and have our little Rep-Dem pissing contests.
Meaningless. THEY RULE (http://theyrule.net).

This was years ago, silly. At that time he was not a "right wing Christian," he was a spoiled rotten college kid. Just to be *clear*. You make it sound like he admitted that he hits the bong with Laura nightly in the oval office. The word "reserve" is incorrect in your statement.
This has nothing to do with JC. Leave him out of it.

And just to be *clear*, he's oh so great of a Christian role model now? Give me a break. He's evil by any definition of the word. His actions go completely against God and against Jesus for anyone who can see the message clearly at all.

Do you have any respect for law enforcement in general? Or any other part of the government? They are all humans like us- self interested, hypocritical, and usually totally full of shit. A cop, AG, or president of the USA has no right to oppose anything they have personally done? Good luck with that, pal. That's called anarchy, because no one is perfect. Not the Dems, not the Reps. Not anyone except Jesus (just thought I would throw that in there;) )
To jack Rummy: "you go through life with the government you have."

I support the cop that says "I did that and it was wrong and you should not do that."
You support the one that keeps his mouth shut.

Hey the conservative monkeys have been throwing poo for quite awhile. They should expect a return in kind.:grumble: What's good for the democrat should be good the republican. The pot calling the kettle black. If you can't stand the heat get of the kitchen. You know that sort of thing. If this tape was about oh say Kerry the republicans would have been all over like stink on a monkey. You know this. Don't even attempt to cloud the issue. This is about Bush not Byrd or anyone else ( except maybe Gore ). And yes it's a matter of ethics! It's the fact that he critisized an opponent over the same issue. Get it?:grumble:
More evidence that Mr. Bush is also Mr. double standard.:grumble:

So does anyone care that the President's "principled" stance against homosexuality is merely politically determined?
That is true to some extent but the onus behind that, and what he actually said, was something to the effect that he wasn't going to 'pick and choose which sins' when he said he wouldn't fire gays. I thought it was a fairly mature outlook.
No one flinches over divorce, but the Bible pulls no punches over the centrality of the family and adulterers and yes, fornicators, are under the same pressure as the gays. What is good for the goose is good for the gander. Why let the filanderes stay but kick out the gays? It makes me want to puke to hear a Gingrich or Dr. Laura lecture ANYONE on 'family values'. At any rate you'd end up with Washington filled with a bunch of hypocrites who can't decorate.
Also, I don't know about you guys but I think we are all a bit more circumspect about the language I use in pulbic relative to the language I use with close friends.

Gee you really speak for yourself. There is nothing mature about homophobia. Washington is filled with hypocrites. Bush is one of the biggest.

Much as I like to Bushbash, I think in this case Bush was acting in a non-homophobic manner when he stated he would NOT bash gays.
This seems evidence to me that he is not a homophobe - of course he reneged on the statements but that is surely pragmatism. All politicians do that, it doesn't mean anything.
I'm not necessarily sure Bush is a hypocrite - he may actually believe the stuff he comes out with. It's not a problem that this is often self-contradictory - I read an interesting article once about Bush and Blair (by a psychiatrist) and how they both display extreme symptoms of a syndrome where the sufferer believes the truth to be changeable whatever he happens to say at any given time.
And just because someone is 'evil' and should be opposed doesn't mean he is guilty of all bad characteristics - that's verging on 'wingerthink'.

Anyone who can believe that the truth is a variable thing is a hypocrite in my book.
Also Bush has done in the last 4 years ( some of it with an anti gay stance ) enough bad things that we've heard about ( and some I'll bet we haven't ) he tends to make himself a target.
I'm sure that the conservatives wish this anti Bush stuff would just go away and we could all live in peace and harmony. You know " unified " like he was trying to portray us during the SOTU address. Well maybe those conservatives should write Mr. Bush and tell to stop doing so many stupid things. There are so many maybe that's why he appears to be all bad. He makes himself a target.

You do realize that you've just played the "youthful indiscretion" card to save Bush, right? I get to play it now with Byrd. His Klan days? Youthful indiscretion. You don't get to talk about it anymore. Clinton's pot smoking? Youthful indiscretion. You don't get to talk about it anymore.
See how that works?

Also if you follow that logic whatever Kerry did in Vietnam had no place in the election.
