Sometimes I just can't believe how bigoted and narrow minded people in this country can be. Makes want to scream!!!

Saw this in todays SF Gate (http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?file=/news/archive/2005/02/25/national/a150332S21.DTL):

(02-25) 17:12 PST Green Cove Springs, Fla. (AP)

County school officials are backing a principal's decision to bar a picture of a lesbian student dressed in a tuxedo from the high school yearbook.

Sam Ward, principal of Fleming Island High School, said he pulled the senior class picture because Kelli Davis was wearing boy's clothes. His decision was debated Thursday at a Clay County school board meeting that drew 200 people, but the board took no action, and Superintendent David Owens said the decision will stand.

Most of the 24 people who spoke at the meeting supported Kelli Davis.

"This is not to be treated as a gay rights issue," said her mother, Cindi Davis. "Rather it's a human rights issue."

Others applauded Ward's decision, including Karen Gordon, who said, "When uniformity is compromised, then authority no longer holds."

Officials at the northeastern Florida school have said the picture was pulled from the yearbook because Davis did not follow the rules on dress. School board attorney Bruce Bickner said there is no written dress code for senior pictures, but principals have the authority to set standards.

The student editor of the yearbook, Keri Sewell, was fired after refusing her adviser's order to take the picture out.

That sucks. Obviously a tux is allowed for senior pictures and if a girl wants to wear one, regardless of her orientation, she should be allowed to do so.

Now I have a picture of me in my yearbook where I am bent over and have a guy with two hands directly in my crotch area.

Then again I was the center on the football team... :D

Yeah, she has got to be fun. What does uniformity have to do with authority?

I am pretty sure no one will argue in favor of this statement, but where do you come up with ideas like this? What has to be wrong with you?

Yeah, that quote by Gordon was really quite scarry. She must admire the Hitler Youth for their uniformity. " Ahh, look at all the little angels marching in unison."

Most males probably see the image of a girl in a tux as quite sexy. What would you think if it was a gay male in a dress?

just out of curiosity, hehe - i'm sure dmz has an opinion.

is it biblically acceptable for me to take my girlfriend up the kaiser, and is she allowed to return the favour if I buy her an extension?

I heard this story days ago, and thought it was ridiculous. She should be able to wear whatever she wants.

However, if she attached the argument to being lesbian, she is cutting of her nose to spite her face.

It then is asking people to accept lesbianism as OK. And if that is the case that is where she went wrong.

This is purely a freedom of speech thing. So the lesbian thing can be totally left out.

I remember a friend of mine wore a T-shirt with the tux shirt and tie and stuff painted on, and a Tux jacket. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed it.

This situation should not be blown up by her or the school or media.

well, my 0.2 would suggest that if she was blocked out because she was a lesbian and not because of the clothes than that is the issue.

Were *all* other girls wearing proper uniform or was it dress as you like? why wasn't she pulled from the photo before it was taken if she was in voilation of dress code and obviously sticking out like a sore thumb?

This should come to everyone's attention. You're dealing with negative dollars here. She should wear what she wants. Period.

I read NaplesX's posts because I have to, why do you guys do it on purpose? Sillies.

I'd like to jump on the "what the hell!?" train with the "When uniformity is compromised, then authority no longer holds." comment.
Does this woman even realize what she is saying?

Lets hope she donīt understand the word uniformity and only meant "standard clothing rules" (not that she wonīt measure quite high on the authoritarian scale still)

Does this woman even realize what she is saying? It sounds like a byline for an action movie.
