Post a picture you've taken every day.

http://www.beckhamsite.com/images-photo/DaveRockJackthumb.jpg

This is my father walking down an oil road near my grandparents' farm with his black lab Rock and his youngest grandson Jack.

He was staying out in the country recovering from a quintuple bypass and going through a pretty deep depression. Nothing cheered him up like the grandkids.

He's fine now, but this picture is of a really tough time for all of us.

I wish I knew why the image tags aren't working... :grumble:

No... really, that's a hell of a good photo. And you can almost hear the whistling.

Great shot, the West of US is a fantastic place for photographers.

March 2002.

BTW it's a scan of a Cibachrome A4 print (I have lost the film), and there may be slights variations of colors (even if I try my best to respect the original print).

The pic was (from memory) taken during the morning, later in the day, the color tone should have been a lot warmer.

Is there any forum script that automatically resizes photos that are bigger than, say, 600X450 ?

People could go on about posting pictures of any size they like, however, the script would resize their pictures to some resolution that would not mess up the thread.

I don't know if this is possible? :)

I don't think that automatic resizing is possible, and even if it was the case it should stress too much the server.

We can only set size limits (horizontal, vertical) and the weight in KB of the pic.

Her Cantonese is far better than her English, unfortunately (she lives with her mom most of the time). But her English is still the best in her class. And she's learning Mandarin, like every other child here. She's learned a little Sri Lankan from her nanny.

If we encourage her to work on her Mandarin, she'll be fully trilingual by the time she graduates high school.

I'll encourage her to learn at least one more European language in high school as well.

Was it the bikes or my name that gave it away?

The name confirmed it, but it was the bikes and the architecture. I think I've walked through that area. Between two trips I spent about a month in Amsterdam and did a lot of walking around.

get a tripod, or set the camera on something.

it gets mixed results, but one other way is to hold the camera to your eye, then tuck your arms against your torso, turning yourself iinto a tripod, then don't breathe and take the shot.

The exposure is simply too long.

You can:

1: Use a tripod (or a table, and use the timer).

2: Try using the high-speed sequence mode, and hold your hand as steady as you can, then pick out the sharpest photo and delete the others.

3: Use a camera with Anti-shake.

4: Use a camera with a faster lens.

5: Use slow sync flash (night time mode) and see if you like that effect better.

6: Just take hundreds of photos and hope one turns out okay.

7: Realize that even if photos are not sharp, they can still be beautiful (your photo is actually very nice. Fantastic color).

Slow Sync, hand held:

Okay, I'll see what I can do. I'm using a Canon PowerShot S200. (due for replacement soon anyway). Thanks.

Edit: Okay, it looks like it has an exposure compensation range of 2EV to +2EV in 1/3EV. I'll try that.

Motion blur.

There is simply not enough light

. You can try to use a tripod, but tripod only prevent the shakes coming from the photographer, but It will not freeze moving people or objects.

. you can use the flash, but the background will be dark, because the difference of lighting between the guy and the background will be too high

. you have to buy a new camera, and shot at 1600 or 3200 iso with a fast lens, like 1,4. Fuji is planning to introduce the first compact camera who work at 1600 iso. Otherwise low light condition pictures recquieres reflex cameras like the 350 D.

Cool thread. That pic of the bike with the icicles was excellent.

I wasn't aware that marmots were found in Europe. Definitely one of the coolest animals out there. I think I'd be a marmot if I were an animal, although if I had more ambition I might go for being a wolverine. Marmots have it good though, lounging around in scenic areas, little fear of humans, they like to whistle at passersby, belligerent on occasion as need be.

I try to take a pic or two on occasion, I'll see if I can come up with one or two when I get home.

I don't know, it's strictly forbidden to hunt marmotte in the national park of the Vanoise.
I doubt that marmotte provencale exist, because provence is not the right place for marmottes. In France you only found them in mountains : Alps, and Pyrenees (wrong english spelling).
Perhaps a ragout of marmottes existed in the past. Who knows ?

If you are interested by weird alps food, there was the famous liquor called viperine. You catch a viper, you put it alive in alcohool, where she become drunk before dying. I am lucky : nobody ask me to drink this terrible stuff :D

Well for the fear of human it depends of marmots. There is marmottes who will fly in panic if they see you at less than 100 meters, some others are domesticated and will support you at 15 to 20 meters ( I shot this ones). In some places, they can eat in your hand.

Marmots hate dogs, and for a marmot eagles and dogs are the worst annoyings animals on earth. Marmottes are one of the most popular animals of the alps. I wasn't aware that they existed in the US, i used to think that just their cousins existed (hound dogs)

It was fairly easy for that okay quality. The camera was on a tripod (albeit, not a good one). I zoomed in to fill the screen, then my brother put the screen down, I took a picture, we put it on the computer, and set it as the desktop. Our camera takes photos in 3x2 aspect ratio, so it seems to fit pretty well on the screen. Leaving the camera in the same spot, I zoomed out and took the picture again. There are lots more on Flickr (http://flickr.com/photos/tags/transparent/).

I'm leaving for Bangkok and Phuket tomorrow, with my underwater camera housing in tow. It's my first real chance to test my digital camera underwater. Too bad my girlfriend doesn't let me share any pictures of her. Maybe I'll have some scenery shots to share. I'll be looking out for some good sunsets.

I'm adding this last one because some friends they said they liked it but I wasn't too hot aboot it. Anyway, I leave it to you to decide.

They were on parade along the Seine, coming back from the Arc de Triomphe after the celebrations of the 60th anniversary of the end of WW2.

I tried making this pic Sepia from color in photoshop but couldn't find out how and so ended up with this effect. Ah well.

hey wake up everyone!

what happened to the daily pictures?

Here are some from this weekend.

http://homepage.mac.com/zo66/.Pictures/soisson/soisson-abbey-in-town.jpg
I went to Soisson to meet some friends. They were late so I took a walk around. I had no idea what there was, and was amazed to see this skeleton of an Abbey/Cathedral. I forgot it's name (shame on me, I know). From flat countryside, all of a sudden this THING just sticks out. Very impressive.

-----------

http://homepage.mac.com/zo66/.Pictures/soisson/soisson-abbey.jpg

Another view. What happened was that it had been a abandoned for a long time. At the time, Napoleon was asked for money to build another church or something like that. He refused since he needed money for empire-building, but decided that the Abbey was for sale and the town of Soisson could then use that money to do whatever they wanted. Subsequently, a mason (stone cutter) bought it, and promptly dismantled it piece by piece to re-sell. All that is left is what you see. Quite amazing.
The rest of the town was 80% destroyed in WW1 seeing that it was very close to the front lines.

--------------

http://homepage.mac.com/zo66/.Pictures/soisson/soisson-sepia.jpg

The guardian's house had this to offer :) I especially thought the Dutch wooden clog shoes were curious.

In what remains of a wing, a beautifully restored section. Nice and bright.

Friends finally arrived and we had a BBQ. I got hypnotized by the fire...

Can we *please* get that 640 by 480 max resolution rule enacted? Not only does it take forever to load the page on even a cable modem, but also it screws up the formatting and half the photos aren't even viewable even on a widescreen 15.2 display.
