yes, the pressing concern is pointy knives that can GASP stab people!
The goal is to make blunt knives or knives with rounded ends. Rounded ends would be a real pain to sharpen (speaking as one who greatly enjoys using his J.A. Henckels knves). Blunt knives won't actually help you as my 11 inch sashimi tako knife has a blunt unshaped end and yet would slice down to the bone with ease.
The favorite part of the article is where Brittish chefs said that there is no reason to have pointy ends... as if Brittish chefs know anything about cooking ;) On this issue I favor consulting the French as they know about cooking.
And yes I do keep my knives honed to razor sharp perfection. No, I do not worry about them being used to hurt somebody, that is what the .45 HK with hollow points is for ;)

The best restaurant in the world is British. (http://www.guardian.co.uk/uk_news/story/0,3604,1462825,00.html) Meanwhile my local caff serves quinoa and fine leaf salads, which is not atypical.
"French food", meanwhile, is full of butter and stuck in the 19th Century (not that it is not absolutely marvellous, and "food you buy in France" is also yummy).
So you're, to be charitable, not exactly up-to-date with your stereotypes.
Slightly more on topic, the UK government is turning into my mummy. I wish it would fuck off.

;) What's the fun of stereotypes if they are up to date?

Interesting relationship with your mom.
I've heard that cooking pots can be used to assault people in domestic violence cases. Perhaps we should make pots that can't hurt anybody.

Why not hold the person responsible for using it as a weapon? Amazing...........Lawmakers with nothing to do but grow the police state.

Are you my mummy?
Sterotypes? Yeh, they're great. Americans are so stupid they don't know a single thing about the rest of the world, which is why they continually piss everyone off by using crap stereotypes. Every Russian in the US is only there because they can export some the endemic corruption from back home.
Yes, stereotypes sure are fun!

Argh another stupid law on its way...just like that ban on home DIY.....I wish our gorvernment could focus on some of the bigger issues in our country like MRSA, or the floundering education - the government needs to get its act together, fast, most people don't care about kitchen knives or the dangers of home DIY. Banning them both, certainly won't win votes, and in the end; What exactly is the government trying to gain with these nonsensical laws anyway?

White hats are ok now. It's pointy black hats next.
You get the ducking stool and if you survive that you're not in the club so you get a nice little fire to warm your toes....

Its the mutual admiration society for passing useless meaningless law but then they can look at each other and pretend they did something special.
Govt wants all say and control of our lives it doesnt matter if talking of USA,England,or Russia. Govt is a force onto itself growing, getting more and more into our lives telling us what we can and cant do and then sending us the bill for their intrusion. Enough is enough.
