SD and HD

In Final Cut and DVD studio they talk about sD and HD. They say somewere along the lines that you can convert your SD to HD format... so for me does that mean i can take my MINIDV camera import and convert to HD.. this all seems odd to me? and is MINI DV sd?

MiniDV can capture both HD (High definition) and SD (Standard definition). Depending on the camera you have. You can up-convert SD to HD, but that will just make the files bigger. You don't really get any benefit by doing that.

If you capture in DV, there isn't a whole lot you can do to upscale it. At work we have some really expensive scalers that can take SD to a higher resolution, but that's from $80,000 cameras, not Handycams or the likes. Keep in mind that DV is even worse than SD in terms of resolution.
