I could've sworn I once heard of some trick to get the Apple DVD player to play movies in a semi-transparent mode with the window staying in front.

Does anyone know how to do this?

Haven't heard about this trick, but for fifteen bucks there's TransLucy (http://www.macupdate.com/info.php/id/13739).

I dunno about that but I've seen some feature on ATI all-in-wonder board software for windows that makes a translucent overlay of the tv channel on everything. So you can by typing up a word document and watching TV at the same time. Heh. It's a really neat feature.
