in iChat 3, you have to click on View > Use Group
then when you click on the + button in the buddy list window you can choose to make a group
just for the others that like me were stumped by how to have groups and stuff. nice for adding people temporarily to your buddy list so you can see their icons when iChatting on appleinsider room for example
