Like all good Americans, I think that Ann is the devil, based on what I have heard in the Media. The strongest evidence is the quote "we should invade afghanistan, kill their leaders, and convert them to christianity".
However, I just watched the documentary "is it true what they say about Ann?", and I am starting to change my mind. With the exception of that one quote (where she was probably still a little insane in the post 9/11 time, like we all were) I agree with all the things she said.
She seems like a very inteligent and well-read person, and has a lot of ideas that I agree with (outside of Religion). I may read her books.
Any thoughts?

Make that outside of Religion and Gay rights. She is pretty anti-gay, which I think is evil. But besides those two areas.

Well, she's very good at what she does (baiting Democrats) and I occasionally find her pieces amusing (the whole point being that she's joking...or is she?), but she's shown herself to be potentially a bit wacky on more than one occasion when I've seen her do the talking head bit on TV. What's actually scary are the people on her message board at anncoulter.org who lap that shit up without realizing that it's largely said for shock value. That said, I'll have to check out the doc. Sounds interesting.
Some other choice Ann (from Wikiquote (http://en.wikiquote.org/wiki/Ann_Coulter).
"If Chicago had been hit, I assure you New Yorkers would not have cared. What was stunning when New York was hit was how the rest of America rushed to New York's defense. New Yorkers would have been like, 'It's tough for them; now let's go back to our Calvin Klein fashion shows."
"My only regret with Timothy McVeigh is he did not go to the New York Times building."
"I think [women] should be armed but should not vote...women have no capacity to understand how money is earned. They have a lot of ideas on how to spend it...it's always more money on education, more money on child care, more money on day care."
"I think there should be a literacy test and a poll tax for people to vote."

She's not the devil, she's just worthless.
Anyone can be shocking, but can everyone provide substance and insight into subjects? No. Ann can sell books to horny wingers. That's her big talent. That's her contribution to this world. She can make people angry while saying nothing at all of substance.

I think she kicks ass! Anti-gay? You should read some of the post on PoliticalCrossfire. Those people are anti-gay (of course I'm right along with them with homosexuality being an abomination and all).

Man I've pondered such thoughts forever, but have never said them b/c of the fear of being crucified (literally) by the femi-nazis and every other liberal group out there.God, if I could only find a girl my age that thought that way, I would be in love!!

The documentary make her seem a lot more reasonable than the various quotes would make her seem. I think that part of what she has to say is just for shock value - of course I think that women should vote.
I am not a fan yet - but the documentary made it so at least I am open to (and interested in) reading her books.

He is 18 or something - I think that he is serious, but not yet well-formed. My neice flipped from extreme conservative at 18 to extreme liberal at 22 (after Columbia), and is now starting to see things in a more complex and centrist way.

Um, you don't suppose that the "documentary" makes Coulter "seem" a certain way because that's what it set out to do?
You can get a good sense of the unbiased place this particular piece is coming from by taking a look at the "special features" on the DVD:
-Watch an additional 40 minutes of exclusive interviews with Ann
-Delight as Ann lets loose with her fans at the Conservative Political Action Caucus
-Watch Ann eviscerate a special issue of the New York Times
-Go up close and personal with Ann at a Clare Boothe Luce event
-Flip through an Ann Coulter Photo album
Yep. Sounds like the producers were bent on getting to the bottom of the "Ann Coulter" story, let the chips fall where they may....
E#s, you're free to believe what you want, but "having your eyes opened" by something overtly agenda driven as this seems sorta pointless.
BTW, how come conservative shrieking heads are always characterized as being "funny"? As in, what's the big deal about Ann calling for liberals to be rounded up and executed? Can't you tell she's joking?

I was watching VH1 one day when they had that show about what click celebrities belonged to back in high school. I shit you not Ann Coulter was a Dead Head. I'm sure she was tokin' on the ganja and droppin' acid. Might explain some things.:)

Um. My understanding is that Coulter is the daughter of a fairly prominent Republican activist/lawyer, and that when she was in college she started a conservative newspaper/journal and was heavily involved in the Young Republicans and whatnot.
She has been raised her whole life to bait liberals.
In addition, E#s, you might consider when the last time you saw her on a talking head show outside of Fox was. Remember when she pitched a fit on Hardball about having to share time with Katrina Vanden Heuvel? The guest host (Matthews was out) actually asked her at one point "Am I boring you, Ann?" Her behavior was absolutely horrible. HORRIBLE. Utterly petulant.
Remember the time she was on Hardball and just started making up shit about Patton? Remember how Matthews corrected her and finished by saying "Facts mean nothing to you, Ann"?
Coulter's value is that she gets out there and says crazy shit. That's it. If you bite, she's won. The real problem, though, is that her insanity passes for mainstream among horny, angry conservative guys.
Michele Malkin/Maglalang is no different. It's of course not surprising that two hottie conservatives are such large figures in the conservative media. Just look at how Fox staffed its newsroom with pretty women in short skirts, all sitting on stools....
Sigh.

Hey tell that to her, she was the one on the show saying how great the Dead were.
Some of the biggest pot smoking, acid dropping Dead Heads I've met have been Republicans. Liberal youth do not have the market cornered on the use of illicit substances and listening to the Dead.

I didn't watch the bonus materials. You would think that she would object if the movie was making her look different than she really is (i.e. In order to make her look good, they have to paint an unrealistic picture of her - it would be kind of a blow to the ego).
In any case, I will withhold judgement until I see her books (but I will buy them used, just in case she really is evil I don't want to contribute any book royalties).
And if she was a transvestite, I probably would like her even more.

You should also note that the woman responsible for that piece is a former Democrat turned Republican who has an axe to grind. Seems like that's always how it is, with those folks, isn't it?
And on the left all we have, really, is Ariana Huffington. Harumph.

It's not the bonus materials per se, it's what the fawning language used to describe them says about who made the DVD and why.

What? You think Coulter would object to seeing herself portrayed in a flattering light, if she believed such a portrayal was undeserved, because her ego would oblige her make sure she was portrayed in an unflattering light?
Are you sure you haven't already decided you like what she has to say and are just looking for "considered" way to declare yourself?
In any case, I will withhold judgement until I see her books (but I will buy them used, just in case she really is evil I don't want to contribute any book royalties).
Honestly, I can save you the trouble. Her books are semi-incoherent screeds against liberalism. She considers liberalism, and liberals, to be stupid, traitorous, dishonest, cowardly, elitist, anti-American, anti-freedom, totalitarian, duplicitous, hypocritical, smug, and wrong about everything. To bolster her case she makes shit up, a lot. She writes like a woman who was badly traumatized at some point in her life and has dealt with it by making "liberals" the source of all her feelings of betrayal, shame and rage.
Left to her own devices, I wouldn't call her evil so much as pathetic, but unfortunately she has achieved synergy with the ugly discourse of our age, so the net effect is pretty evil, in fact.
And if she was a transvestite, I probably would like her even more.
Whatever floats your boat. I can't help but notice than some people, particularly people on the right, have a bit of a sexual fetish around cruel teutonic woman. I am fairly certain there are Ann Coulter porn sites that photo shop her head onto thigh-high boot wearing, whip wielding she-wolves of the SS.
I am also fairly certain that Coulter is well aware of this dynamic and takes some pains to cultivate a public persona that plays on right wing jerk-off fantasies of the aryan dominatrix.
But hey, knock yourself out.

For one thing, I don't find her very attractive (and I also am not very "right wing").
I am a bit worried about this train of thought - it seems kind of sexist to me to discount a woman because of her appearance. I have heard a number of things along this line regarding Ann.
It looks to me that a woman needs to be marginally good looking (but not too good looking), or else her opinions will not be taken seriously. Hillary Clinton is about perfect in that regard - not good looking enough so that aspect dominates the conversation, and not ugly either.

Watch her on any interview. She uses her sexuality just like anyone would to be persuaive. Women are really good at this if you haven't noticed.
