Quite a shocking story. If they do that to a US solider, I wonder what they do to actual detainees who aren't so cooperative.

As we America-Loving patriots know, this is nothing more than a liberal mass-media conspiracy to attack and put in a bad light our Commander-In-Chief G. Bush.

Especially this part:

The Pentagon initially said that Baker's hospitalization following the training incident was not related to the beating. Later, officials conceded that he was treated for injuries suffered when a five-man MP "internal reaction force" choked him, slammed his head several times against a concrete floor and sprayed him with pepper gas.

This non-story was published by the French-Loving, America-Hating pussy-ass magazine LA Times. How dare they do this I don't know, but it's unpatriotic and should be punished to the fullest extent possible for We Are At War™.

At the very least, it sounds like the Lieutenant should go to jail.

Yup. You got it EXACTLY right.

"What happens in Gitmo, stays in Gitmo!" "I heart Gitmo!" Or to quote the ever illustrious Niel Cavuto "those who questions our tactics at Gitmo have forgotten who our enemy is."

Did you read the article? The lieutenant failed to notify the soldiers that this was a drill, and he was not on hand to stop things when they got out of hand.

It was a joke of sarcasm, referring to the last Prison incident Guantonamo where all the brass had little to do with anything and made it look like the Private was in charge of all those bad things they did to those sand dwellers.

Apparently the US is stalling the UN inspectors (http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/americas/4123200.stm) and refusing them access to check detainees at the prison.

Should have taken that beating like a man. For his country and fellow patriots... Patriots, like the gaurds that beat him.

sego, come on now. The Prez just invited a bunch of reporters to go and check out Gitmo for themselves.

Apparently Doctors have been helping (http://www.nytimes.com/2005/06/24/politics/24gitmo.html?ex=1120190400&en=5fe59bdc7964d4a8&ei=5070&emc=eta1) in the Gitmo tortures (in violation of the medical oaths) and advising on the best methods of inducing pain and stress.
