I agree. You mentioned Zbrush. That app can do some pretty amazing things, but the GUI is absolutely f*cked. And Pixologic pretty much refuses to hear criticisms of it - they think they've found a revolutionary way to build interfces or something. To my way of thinking, it just barely qualifies as a Mac application. Not saying that have to make it look like Photoshop, but jeezus, at least put in some always-visible stanard menu options, keyboard shortcuts and the like.
I don't know what it is about 3D app GUI designers either, but they're clearly smoking something the other programmers aren't.
:)
Foa all you new PLEers and old hacks, I've written a tutorial on how to build a Subaru WRX in Maya. <a href="http://homepage.mac.com/mikethomson/Tutorial/tutorial.html" target="_blank">check it out</a>

Just out of curiosity, do you really use Blender? I tried for quite some time, but the interface is just so horrible... even worse than Carrera or Bryce. Why do 3D apps always have pathetic UIs? Pixels3D, Amapi3D, ZBrush... I had high hopes for Maya PLE, but their UI sucks too...

Maya isn't that unintuitive, but it could definitely be better. It's visually very bad, looking like it was taken directly from the Windows version. I should design some new buttons/icons for them and send them to them. (Whew, too many "them"s. :p )
