Notebook processor replacement

I have a Sony VAIO notebook, and I'm happy with it. It looks good, it's plenty fast and solid. I've had it for 2 years. I like it. But there's one part of it that I absolutely hate: it's processor. It has a so-called desktop-replacement processor - a P4-M at 2.4Ghz. Naturally, it's: loud and hot as hell. The hot I can tolerate, but I can't stand the loudness anymore.

I just wanted to ask you guys if it's possible to do a processor switch: buy a Pentium M and put that in, instead of this beast. Not myself of course, some local computer store. I just wanted to be aware of the (im)possibility of such an endeavor before I went into one of those shops and the guy slapped me with a $500 bill and a useless piece of maachine because he ruined it while trying to install it.

Well, as far as I know if you have a P4-M processor, the chipset used (852xx) is not compatible with any P-m processors (usually 855 or 915express). And as far as the loudness goes, I also don't think that will change with any processor used with the current chipset you have.

But then again I have been wrong before ;)
