Being new to Mac, I have found out accessing files on a networked Mac from Windows system by enabling Personal File Sharing and Windows File Sharing on the Mac. Having done that, I can see files on an eMac from Windows using an Internet browser. Is there a way we can do the same using Windows Explorer instead of Internet browser?

Also, using direct Ethernet cable connection or through a router I have been trying to access files on a networked Windows system from Mac without any success. Is it possible? I can't find help from Help in Mac; neither can I find it on Internet.

Does Ownership & Permissions under Get Info apply to networked access as well?

Windows Explorer is Internet Explorer. They just use different shells when you call one of them.

With a shared folder in a Windows system over the network, one can add, edit or delete files, can we do that on Mac from Windows

How can we do the same the other way round, on Windows from Mac?

How do we set permissions on shared files over the network?

You can go to Netword Neighborhood in Windows Explorer and browse your OS X folders from there (add, delete, modify, etc.)

I'm not sure about permissions from a Windows-based machine. Haven't run Windows in a while, I usually stick to OS X + Linux.

Thanks a lot. I have managed to access files on Windows from Mac after installing NWLink IPX/SPX protocol on the network setup with Windows.

As to permissions, I have found that one can only read files from the public or shared directory if access via browser. Accessing Mac via Windows network neighbourhood seems to give me access to files on Mac from Windows the same as working directly on Mac.

Upon further testing or experiments, I have found that the same MAC with OS X 10.2 installed talks with Windows XP Home and Pro would not talk to Windows 2000 or NT4. I've got the same setup on the network interface for Windows 2000 or NT4 as for XP, ie TCP/IP and NWLink IPX/SPX/NetBIOS compatible Transport Protocol.

Can somebody shed some light? Both access via Internet broswer and Network Neighbourhood failed. I am sure they should work. I have heard and seen such setup that work before. It's a shame that I miss the detail.
