View Full Version : Jobs says Pixar sale means more time for Apple

AppleInsider
04-27-2006, 05:08 PM
Apple Computer chief executive Steve Jobs said on Thursday he has no interest in becoming an executive at Walt Disney, which will soon complete its acquisition of the mercurial CEO's other company, Pixar Animation Studios, reports The Associated Press.

In fact, Jobs told shareholders at Apple's annual shareholders meeting that he plans to spend more time at Apple after he relinquishes his chief executive job at Pixar when the studio's merger with Disney closes in two weeks.

Asked whether he ever wanted to lead Disney given his growing influence in digital media, Jobs reportedly quipped that he had no interest in being Disney's Michael Eisner.

Jobs said he understood concerns that he would soon be spending more time at Disney, but "that couldn't be further from the truth," he said. "It'll require less of my time than Pixar did."

Disney's upcoming, $7.4 billion purchase of Pixar will land Jobs a seat on the Disney board and make him the company's largest shareholder.

Also on Thursday, a preliminary tally of votes during the Apple meeting showed that its shareholders re-elected the company's seven board members and rejected a proposal by environmental advocates to study how Apple could improve its recycling program.

During the meeting, Jobs also told shareholders to look our for an exciting new Macintosh television ad campaign that will begin airing next week.

Of course he doesn't want to be their M. Eisner... he wants to be their reincarnated Walt Disney!

...Ooh... what's gonna show on TV next week? 8)

"Mr. Jobs would like to put some of our movies in you online store"? "Why yes! Thank you very much Mr. Jobs"! "That's ok Mr. Jobs, the pleasure's mine". "Right I definitely need to stop talking to the mirror, and get back to doing what I do best. Growing apple's"!;)

Is it too much to hope for a MacBook announcement on Monday or Tuesday, immediately accompanied by a new saturation ad campaign during all the big May sweeps TV programming?

Why would anyone vote against this? How much money is it going to lose the already rich shareholders to put a bit of money into environmental protection? Hell, it would probably make them more as it would put Apple in an even better light than they already are!

Fucking Capitalism!

Mainly because the announcement last week/two weeks ago to recycle computers on the purchase of a new one makes Apple on of the most environmentally friendly computer companies there is.

A guy's (in Highschool) last name was Ficken (in German "ficken" is a

Basic tenet of environmentalism: the world is fucked and whatever action is taken is always not enough. :D

Just mucking around here, there are other more "positive" views of environmentalism and more "hopeful" Gaia perspectives..?

I guess running Apple has grown in to a full time job, with the massive increase in size. And can't those environmentalist scum use someone else's meeting as a publicity vehicle please?

Totally! Why don't they do something more productive with their time, like posting on a computer-related discussion board?

The difference is I do not interupt shareholder meetings to read my posts out. If they want to preach their nonsense let them do it on their own time, not Apple's.

It was a "meeting". The environmentalists "proposed" something. Apple "rejected" the proposal. The meeting continued.

That's how share-holder meetings work. Pull your head out of your a**.

 As Wilco said, the "environmentalists" did not "interrupt" the shareholder meeting to "read any posts out". They weren't a nuisance, a group of shareholders proposed something at a shareholder meeting and it was considered. Simple, mate.

Oh puhleeze, don't be so naive. It was a publicity stunt. Apple is a very popular brand these days, so they buy a few shares in order to get publicity for their ideas. If you think they are legitimate shareholders offering up serious business suggestions you really have the blinkers on.

It's also publicity for Apple. Journalists that cover the "environmentalists' publicity stunt" will also get a soundbite from an Apple spokesperson that can talk about recycling or whatever from http://www.apple.com/environment/

Because people's means of survival is modding the environment. Just look around you: cars, trucks, planes, buildings. Therefore anyone who says the environment is sacrosanct and not to be touched is against our survival.

sunilraman

Interesting terminology. Sustainable "modding" of the environment would be a good thing though. Just like overclocking your GPU, you don't want to push it too far it'll overheat/melt/explode. Same with our "modding" of the environment, I think currently the "development" and "progress" especially in developing countries is "excessively overclocked" :smokey:

Like your GPU when you push it too hard you see artifacts on the screen, our overclocking of the modding of the environment is also starting to show artifacts eg. climate change, rising sea level, overpopulation, land becoming more arid and less fertile, etc. etc.

They don't want sustainable modding, they want no modding. "Sustainability" is just the thin end of the wedge.

Umm... They suggested "to study how Apple could improve its recycling program". That is, how to mod in a better way. Again, with my GPU reference, "improving recycling program" would be like you know, getting a better heatsink for the GPU, so you can overclock some more without artifacts.

In this case, the environmentalists didn't ask for NO modding -- they didn't say "Apple should stop making iPods and Macs".
