The people have spoken.
The process has worked.

This is the tip of the corrupt iceberg in corporate America. They broke the unwritten 11th Commandment in big business "Thou shalt not get caught".. What will be the sentence? 3 months community service and a $2000 fine? Anyway, Dubya will probably pardon Lay and Skilling in 18 months. Kenny Boy after all was the man who twice personally interviewed every member of the 2000 Bush cabinet... they are that close.

I was wondering if Bush has the balls to pardon Delay and Skilling. Especially after Bush made such a stink about Clinton pardoning Marc Rich.

We'll know in a year and half, won't we. My money's placed on "Yes, he will."

If they are looking for who to go after next, I nominate John Roth - former CEO of Nortel.

Without a presidential pardon they'll be spending decades in the federal pen.

I doubt it, although this is Bush, so I do have my doubts about that :) . Bush has done some pretty crazy shit, but Enron has become *the symbol of corporate greed, and Delay and Skilling getting a year and a half when people who did plea bargains to testify against them getting 10 years minimum, i think it would ruin the Republicans for good.

Truly. There's so much controversy in this case that even the most corporate-friendly judge is going to throw them in jail for a really long time. To let them off with a wrist slap would be impossible to justify, being such a visible case.

I was letting cynicism get the better of me, for once ;)

I'm willing to wager 2¢ to every member of AI who has posted in this thread who believes Lay won't get a Pardon when GWB leaves office.

If W pardons him, I don't pay.

Place your bets.

I'm betting cronyism and corporate greed will be the hallmark of this admin.

There won't be pardons because Bush will be out of office by the time the apeals are finally exhausted.

Will that $0.02 be sent as Canadian or American funds?

As I understand it, he can pardon anyone who has been convicted. You don't have to wait for the appeal effort to be completed. If a pardon comes in the midst of appeal, the appeal request simply becomes a moot point and is dropped.

Yup. I figure he'll pardon them. It'll be in line with this crowd's attempt to expand the powers of the presidency, and considering that they don't seem to care all that much about whoever follows them, they don't have any reason not to.

Now this is interesting.

The Toronto Star is our fair city's largest newspaper and it specializes in "liberal journalism." (their term, not mine)

This morning, I opened the Business section and found this, (http://www.thestar.com/NASApp/cs/ContentServer?pagename=thestar/Layout/Article_Type1&c=Article&cid=1148593811694&call_pageid=968350072197&col=969048863851) which isn't how I've heard the issue described before by anyone, left or right.

After reading several books on the topic, I think Lay and Skilling should have gotten off with half what they did and Fastow put up with twice.

Fastow was the real lying greedy bastard.
