It's nearly here: 6th June - and Christians (yes, I give in - these people are the real deal) in 23 countries are holding mass vigils against Satan (http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/europe/5049516.stm).
One of the features of the operation IS quite worrying though:
In a bid to counteract the forces of evil, more than 2,000 Dutch Christians will hold "a violent day of worship".
:wow:
Let's hope they mean the video game where Christians blwo away Muslims but I must admit I do have a creeping feeling of foreboding s the day approaches - after all, we are nearing the time of the anti-Christ imo and I do have some looming suspicions as to who that term might refer to....
Anyone else worried?

Yeah - that really takes it out of you.....
Usually I recommend invoking Hastur or perhaps Choronzon to take possession of the corporeal body on such occasions - the extra energy boost is a real blast when pillaging.
Tried it today actually but being the 6/6/06 I just couldn't get through. Ended up manually dialing 666 on my cell but all that happened was a policeman came round and stood on his head on my doorstep for an hour.....

Oooh funny you said that;
Imagine: you are a foot soldier in a paramilitary group whose purpose is to remake America as a Christian theocracy, and establish its worldly vision of the dominion of Christ over all aspects of life. You are issued high-tech military weaponry, and instructed to engage the infidel on the streets of New York City. You are on a mission - both a religious mission and a military mission — to convert or kill Catholics, Jews, Muslims, Buddhists, gays, and anyone who advocates the separation of church and state - especially moderate, mainstream Christians. Your mission is “to conduct physical and spiritual warfare”; all who resist must be taken out with extreme prejudice. You have never felt so powerful, so driven by a purpose: you are 13 years old. You are playing a real-time strategy video game whose creators are linked to the empire of mega-church pastor Rick Warren, best selling author of The Purpose Driven Life.
The game, slated for release by October 2006 in advance of the Christmas shopping rush, has been previewed at video game exhibitions, and reviewed by major newspapers and magazines. But until now, no fan or critic has pointed out the controversial game’s connection to Mr. Warren or his dominionist agenda.

Must we go through this again?
Do you have some reliable source that "links" the game creators to Rick Warren. Something that actually has Rick Warren endorsing or supporting the game and its creators? Something other than they buy their Hawaiian shirts at the same store? Something other than the game creators call themselves Christians and Rick Warren calls himself a Christian? Something other than some loose association which can be turned into "linked to" and then even "endorsed by"? You are beginning to channel segovius now.

I saw that in another thread.
This is what happens when Christians glom on to any cultural phenomenon, and tack a Jezzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzus on to it. Somehow it makes it moral or even vaguely efficacious. Pretty disgusting.
The best way to understand this is to look at the Gay marriage amendment. The pre-Nicean christians knew how to lead by example -- not lobby Rome to force everyone into their way of life.
In General [and all generalizations are bad] dispensational/premillenial Christians in America have no idea of their past, they have no idea of where they are going culturally, and have no idea what they are doing at the moment, other than making those fuax Abercrombie & Fitch 'Christian' T-shirts, and producing 'Chrisitan' Rap. Babes in the woods.
"At this moment in the Church’s history in this country (and in the West more generally)
it is less urgent to convince the alternative culture in which we live of the truth of Christ
than it is for the Church to tell itself its own story and to nurture its own life,
the culture of the city of God."

That kind of thing needs bashing imo. I believe in love and peace - this Christ and his followers are just violent thugs who preach extremism, hate and oppose peace.
We need to oppose these haters and extremists. I learnt that here too....

So it'll be just as violent (soldiers killing demons with a variety of weapons), but no blood... right.
Sounds like Bush admin policy on not showing returning KIA coffins from Iraq.
Sweep the blood away and pretend it's therefore virtuous. Pay no attention to the folks behind the flag/curtain.
Oh, and you get points for praying and lose points for cursing.
Geez... if they want a non-violent game to teach morals, how about following the best selling game of all time [hint: The SIMS]... no blood or cursing. Or perhaps a variation on Populous (raise your people up with religion).
Nah... easier to just do an FPS and pretend it's not hypocritical.

You know, your threads actually used to have some good content in them.
I have no idea whether you just lost faith in everything, or some professing Christian ran over your dog at an intersection.
You know fully well that very few Christians would defend a game like this, and it's most likely somebody's greedy idea for making a few dollars off religion.
You rail against Christians for spreading hatred and stereotyping muslims in the current climate and yet you come here daily to do the exact same thing.

Not worth wasting the time. Move on, nothing to see here.
This calls for wisdom. If anyone has insight, let him calculate the number of the beast, for it is man's number. His number is 666.
So not a date then. :)

What is the name of the game? The article doesn't say.
Anyway, the number of the beast is supposed to be 616 - it was mistranslated. A lot of the stuff in the king james bible is messed up by mistranslation - Moses did not cross the red sea, he crossed a tidal swamp called the sea of reeds - another mistranslation (the tide came up and drowned the Egyptians...).

Where does the popular image of The Devil come from? Red, horns, beard, forked tail, cloven hooves, trident, etc... Is it an amalgam of mythical entities or one in particular? The Biblical decriptions of The Devil are much more symbolic (or crazy, if they're meant to be physical;)).

I'll probably see it anyway...but this review was just priceless IMHO: http://www.thestar.com/NASApp/cs/ContentServer?pagename=thestar/Layout/Article_Type1&c=Article&cid=1149545411754&call_pageid=968867495754&col=969483191630
Some highlights:
At the beginning of the alarmingly redundant remake of 1976's The Omen being released today — on, omigod, 6/6/06! — a Vatican priest delivers an Al Gore-style end-of-days slideshow demonstrating portents of the coming Antichrist.
While it includes images of the collapsing World Trade Center and the Asian tsunami, it somehow misses the most chilling sign of Satan's ascendancy: the endless, downward-sucking cycle of remakes like this.
To really hit home, the Armageddon slideshow should include a poster for the movie we're watching.
if you know Donner's Omen, this one's about as suspenseful as an escalator ride
And the piece de resistance:
If the opening-date driven re-make of The Omen succeeds in tapping into any fears of the existence of evil in the world, these will be most acutely felt when you realize that Satan, the old showbiz devil, has picked your pocket once again.

Yes, I dimly seem to recall some such interchange.
There's a lot of this lion stuff about with fundies isn't there? Happens quite often - perhaps trying to banish the spectre of the Circus Maximus.
We should have something like that now imo - of course the original Christians didn't deserve it and were generally peaceful so I suppose that now you would have to update it and have them as the actual Gladiators and throw people like you and me to them.
You'd need a fundie emperor but we have one in Bush and I have a sneaking suspicion that a certain Reverend Luce would relish the chance out live out his über-violent fantasies in some sort of Roman leather gear.
It's really a matter of time before they make the transition from the virtual video killing to the real deal.
You and I are getting on a bit so we might just get away with it but if not it's see you in the arena I guess. Or at the stake.

I don't see that as a problem really. Think about it - what will happen is a two-tier internet.
By necessity one will be 'corporate' and one will be 'cool' - a more refined version of what we have now with all the losers and sheep on the mainstream one.
Moreover, the 'cool' one will be inhabited by the real cutting-edge movers and will actually be subversive as well as technologically more progressive. Of course the forces of evil will try to stop it but what will happen then? What we all need desperately: an organized resistance.
I have thought about this a lot. Why is there no resistance to the encroaching fascism? I think there are several answers (and the two-tier solution is the answer to them all) but here are two:
1) A large number of people have already been conditioned and brainwashed beyond the point of no return.
2) Nothing VISIBLY extreme enough has been perpetrated yet by our 'leaders' - at least not to the home populace (foreigners don't count)
The two-tier internet would be a gift from God - it would get rid of the sheep from the field of play and radicalize hackers and others who would see it as a bridge too far.
Things are all 'virtual' these days - some people (especially on here) even have virtual intelligence - so it makes sense the resistance when it comes will be virtual too.
And we can attack Corporate and Fundie structures and propaganda without bombs.
Bring it on - I can't wait.

Until you realise that 'cool' does not pay for itself. I think what will happen is that initially there will be two internets. But you forget that 95% are sheep, and 95% will go to corperate simply because it is the default one pre-configured onto MS Explorer. The last 5% of us will slowly wither, and when we are a small enough minority, the pipe will be cut.
Or
Creeping fascism and fundamentalism in the administration will convince the 95% that the old internet is a product of Satan with our subversive talk of other Gods and have it censored ala China.
It wont happen in one go, but lots of little steps. The internet is the most valuable commodity in the world. For sure, certain groups will want to control it and its content. Unfortunately the group that wants to control it, i think we both find unagreeable.

well the thing I worry about with you, is that in order to resist and defeat this creeping evil, we need to adopt the same state of mind and modus operandi as the thing we oppose. There won't be any resistance until we have become radicalised and extremist, until we have become organised and discliplined. We'd need to have a single party message and shout it from the rooftops regardless of its validity- not a billion ideas were thrashing out to find the best solution. We'd need to believe we were in a war for our survival, and we'd have to use propoganda and create imaginary bogey men to keep our supporters on side and on message.
But then we'd be them. And whether we created anything better than we have, would only be a reflection of our judgement from a relative POV.
