Haven't seen a thread on this for a while.

Patty Griffin's 1000 Kisses -- the whole frelling masterpiece.

Be Careful

All the girls in the Paris night
All the girls in the pale moonlight
All the girls with the shopping bags
All the girls with the washing rags

All the girls on the telephone
All the girls standing all alone
All the girls sitting on the wire
One by one fly into the fire

Be careful how you bend me
Be careful where you send me
Careful how you end me
Be careful with me

All the girls standing by your beds
All the girls standing on their heads
All the girls with the broken arms
All the girls with the deadly charms

All the girls in the restaurant
Pretending to be nonchalant
Funny girls on the TV shows
Close your eyes and they turn to snow

Be careful how you bend me
Be careful where you send me
Careful how you end me
Be careful with me

Eva Cassidy

'Cause,
The cute girl on American Idol sang a very good arrangement of "Somewhere over the Rainbow" and I wanted to hear the best version since Judy Garland sang way back when in the OZ flick.

Listen to ANYTHING by Eva and be blown away. Most folk don't know about her on this side of the pond. (I don't know why) Unfortunately she died a few years ago at age 30 so there is only a very limited number of tunes.

Only the good die young.

I will NEVER forget the first time I heard Eva. I was out getting ready to leave the house and had the radio on in the car and her "Somewhere over the Rainbow" was flowing from my car and it took me ever so gently. From that point I had to have her music!

Knowing she passed makes her music that much more powerful considering the subjects covered in her lyrics.

Just beautiful and extremely powerful.

Lene Marlin "Faces"

Pour me some wine, join me tonight
Surround me with your happy faces
Share some fun stories, stay up all night
Surround me with your friendly faces
Then look at me, when I'm not aware
Then you'll see, I cannot do without you
I'll be right there, if you ask me to
If you're feeling sad, I'll stay with you
And if you're scared, I'll hold your hand
Like I know you'd do for me too, like I know
You'd do for me too

Pour me some wine, join me tonight
Life is so good when I'm with you
I needed the laughs, I needed you tonight

So look at me, when I'm not aware
Then you'll see, I cannot do without you
I'll be right there, if you ask me to
If you're feeling sad, I'll stay with you
And if you're scared, I'll hold your hand
Like I know you'd do for me too.
I'll be right there, if you ask me to
If you're feeling sad, I'll stay with you
And if you're scared, I'll hold your hand

Undoubtedly the only rock album ever written that contains lines such as "Do it for God, do it for Allah/Put your faith in Captain Muhmad and Al-Fatah".

Patty Griffin's 1000 Kisses

PG has been amazing for a LONG, LONG TIME. I first discovered her on the sountrack to Niagara, Niagara.

Lately, I've been listening to a lot of Coldplay, Damien Rice, and James Hunter (like Sam Cooke? You'll LOVE him!!!).

I also recently re-acquired Yo-Yo Ma's unaccompanied Bach Cello suites.

Ah May the Red Rose Live Always - Suzy Bogguss - Beautiful Dreamer, The Songs of Stephen Foster.

Has anyone else noticed this trend where websites can add a playlist of fm/cd quality playlists using flash? It just isn't fair! I'm going to be living in a box in a damn week if they don't stop. Us music sluts deserve a little shelter from great music so we don't spend ourselves into the street.

Also check out the song above on iTunes. My cardboard box has plenty of room.

Thanks to way too many internet fads and memes spawned from it, this has been stuck in my head and burned into my vision all week now.

IT'S FUNNY BECAUSE YOU HAVE PRETENDED TO TAKE IT LITERALLY INSTEAD OF FIGURATIVELY AND POST A PICTURE OF EARWAX, WHICH IS HUMOROUS BECAUSE IT REINFORCES YOUR AFFECTED MISUNDERSTANDING

:p

I've been listening to Won't Back Down by Tom Petty on loop for almost a week now. It got me through the assembly of my final binder for English/History and now it'll get me through the assembly of my oral presentation.

You gotta do the cooking by the book
You know you can't be lazy

Then you'll have a... Cake!
We gotta have it made
You know that I love cake
Finally it's time to make a... Cake!

You gotta do the cooking by the book..!

It will get you hazy
You gotta do the inhaling by the book
You know you can't be lazy
Never use a bad stash from your dealer
Your trip will end up crazy
If you do the toking by the book
Then you'll have a... Blitz!
We gotta pack it good
You know that I love pot

I've got you all beat. You'll all want this...

Yesterday I bought both of these, and it's enough yummy goodness for at least half a year of repeated play.

Thom Yorke - The Eraser

Yes that's right, it's the new pseudoradiohead album, and it is brilliant. I particularly like the title track, which has a Massive Attackesque bassline and electronic accompaniment with Yorke singing in an unusually whineless voice. I'll have to give the rest of the record a bunch more listens and I'll report back. Wonder if you guys in the States got this one yet.

Muse - Black Holes and Revelations
Also a great record. The first single "Supermassive Black Hole" is very catchy, but I expect more expression from Muse by now. However, there are some freaking awesome tracks on the record, like the finale, "Knights of Cydonia", which follows the tradition of masterpieces like "Butterflies and Hurricanes" form Absolution.

So I'm a happy musical camper these days indeed.

Also listening to the new Muse album - started listening the band a long time ago after seeing them play a local pub and having a drink with them afterwards (they're from my home town). I prefer their older stuff, but this is still a really good album.

Also spinning Jose Gonzalez' 'Veneer' and Snow Patrol's 'Eyes Open'.

no but a friend of mine is  A college of hers was off sick, so she bought her some flowers, as she got to her house, her Alsation poked its head out of the hedge and bit her on the ass. :D

Needless to say, being the sort of person I am (and her husband too!) we all had a laugh, before the sympathy flowed.

BTW, Im listening to Motley Crue - shout at the devil, turned up to 11. - but I realise thats a bit too good for your ears.
