iPod doesn't show up in finder

It's a 20Gig iPod, I think it's a 4th generation model. My wife plugs it into her iMac (G5, 20") most weeknights to charge it for work the next day. The pod works fine as a player, but since it's not showing up in the finder or in iTunes prefs, we can't add any more music to it. Any ideas?

Does it show up under disk utility, and have you tried different ports?

It does not show up under disk utility, and I have tried both FW ports. It still charges as it should, though. :???: :???: :???:

How did you get songs on the ipod in the first place?

I figured out what the problem is. Inside the jack on her pod, I can see that several of the copper contacts have popped out of place or are broken. I guess I'll take it to a repair shop, but I bet they tell me to get a new ipod as that's probably connected to the board. :\
