Just heard that Syd Barrett died. He seemed pretty out of it for a long time so I guess he was already missed a lot. Shame though - and makes some of us feel our age.

No news on any media yet. Guess the tributes will come.

Adios Syd.

Syd was great. But had the Floyd stayed with him, they would never have made Meddle and Ummagumma. For me, these albums represent the best of Pink Floyd.

Syd Barrett was one of the original/founding members of Pink Floyd, a music band from the 60s. He wrote much of their earlier work, and helped them gain fame. He left some time around when they first came to America, when his psychological problems became issues for the band (aided, no doubt, by his excessive use of LSD). After he left, David Gilmour replaced him on guitar, and Roger Waters had transitioned into a bigger role in writing for PF. RW wrote most of the later popular PF albums: The Wall, Dark Side of the Moon, Wish You Were Here. The album Wish You Were Here was largely written for Syd, in particular: Shine On, You Crazy Diamond. At the time WYWH was written, the band had been pretty out of touch with Syd, but by happenstance and peculiarity, Syd showed up at the studio for the recording of SOYCD.

That's sad. And yes I feel old without something like this to remind me. There's been a lot of my favorites with news like this lately. Too much but I guess that is part of aging.
