This is a picture I'm pleased with, not so much for the image itself, but for what I thought was a pretty good Photoshop job of cleaning it up and getting rid of a bit of messy, mostly temporary, reality cluttering up the shot:

This is great photoshop work, but personnaly I wouldn't have removed the lamp shadow : it add mystery to the pic (interaction between the lip of the statue and this shadow) : but it's just me :D

How about a whole bunch of photos from Egypt and Libya and a total solar eclipse, all strung together at a fast pace with cool music using iMovie?
(Yes, I posted this once before, but I like showing it off. ;) )
I have no idea how many of you can view this at once before my web hosting service balks at the bandwidth, but here you are anyway:
http://www.shetline.com/movies/egypt_libya_2006.mov
It's a 15-minute video, 46.9 MB, and requires a bandwith of about 450 kbps to stream smoothly.
The video is basically a fast-paced slide show (most images aren't shown any longer than one second) with some (I think) pretty cool music, with a couple of short snippets of motion video thrown in. I've hopefully made it more entertaining to watch than the average slide show -- I guess all of you can judge how successful I was.
Low-res, monophonic version for lower bandwidth:

Yes, I was thinking that I'm glad I'm not in Egypt or Libya while bombs are dropping on Lebanon. Our trip was this year, last two weeks of March.
By the way, sweet slideshow. Is that an iMovie job?
Yep. I've got to tell you though, although iMovie was pretty good to work with overall, it has some annoying glitches (like constantly rounding off one frame's worth of duration off whole series of slides) and bugs (I had one crash lose me hours of work), plus some annoyingly limited features (such as not being able to change font styles and sizes within a block of scrolling text).
For the DVD version, I also ran into some iDVD annoyances -- my feeling now is that both of the pieces of software felt a little more like late beta releases than final products, especial considering the very mature version number of 6 that I was using.

Arthur's black fur is very difficult to photograph. I had to play around with the brightness curve in Photoshop to bring out some of the detail in his fur in a better way that simple brightness/contrast adjustment could accomplish.

Its lake Bled in the northwestern part of Slovenia. I have family near there in Ljubljana so I spent this summer visiting them. It a great place because not only is it unbelievably beautiful, it's also really cheap (although I think that will change when they switch to the Euro next year).

Thanks. Canon EOS Digital Rebel. I primarily have just tweeked the saturation and brightness in these, with an occasional tweeking of the sharpness. Also the whitepoint. I only shoot in RAW, specifically so that I can tweek WP afterwards. That's probably the single biggest part right there. I'm a tad bit colorblind (never knew until I enlisted in the Army) and I think that may have some impact on my preference for vivid colors. As a result, I usually adjust my photos toward a higher than typical saturation and contrast. I'm currently using Canon's Digital Photo Professional software that they have online for free. Will be stepping up to Aperture whenever I get around to getting a MacPro.
I really don't care much for pastels. :D

Nice photo. That's the British Museum, correct? I went to London and stayed at a bed and breakfast a block away from the museum. I'd get up early and would spend an hour or two every morning in a different part of the museum before I went on my trek through London.

Thanks :D. South Haven, MI, where I took the photos (most of them) has some really great sunsets. It sits right on Lake Michigan (I THINK it's lake michigan.... I'm a geography dummy! The one on the LEFT!) and is one of my favorite spots to shoot. Though I've never been able to accurately reproduce the colors (lack of experience I think), a little bit of tweaking of the RAW images has provided some nice stuff, IMO. This particular excursion was really cool, because just as the sun dropped below the horizon, some people who were walking down the pier toward me pointed behind me and said something to the effect of, "Hey, there the moon, too!" I whipped around and got treated to the moon rising above the trees and resort-ish condos. Uber cool. Didn't get many good shots of that though. I still haven't figured out how to get good shots of the moon... always over-exposes the moon, and underexposes everything else.... must be the lens.. yeah, better buy more lenses... Anyone got a spare $3000 so I can get an f1.5 800mm lens???
On a personal note, I think three of my all time favorite shots that I've captured are "Sundown ..." from the recent post, the partial panorama of the trees framing the flagpole (bout in the middle of the page) and the shot of the power plant from across the cooling pond (most of the way up). I particularly like the clarity and breadth of spectrum that I got one "Sundown..." I'll have to figure out how the heck I did that one of these days...
