According to Peace Now!, an israeli peace-organisation, a leaked 2004-survey by the israeli civil administration reveals that about 40% of the israeli settlements in the Westbank have been constructed on private palestinian land!

86.4% of Maale Adumim, the biggest israeli settlement in the Westbank, is built on privately-owned palestinian land...

That means it's official that Israel has stolen land from private palestinians in the Westbank, and also kept secret the report for years, for fear of image-damage.

The international community views correctly all israeli settlements in the occupied territories as illegal, but until now Israel has argued that they haven't dispossessed private palestinians for these settlements but instead used socalled "state-land". This report makes now clear that about 40% of the land these israeli settlements sit on, have been stolen from private palestinians, and therefore illegaly, even according to israeli law, used for israeli settlements.

Even before it was "official" we all knew it was true. But the pro-Israel folk simply ignored the fact that it was neither fair nor legal, as they will even now.

The landlords should therefore charge rent! That concept is a lot more productive than blowing people up, as far as either side is concerned.

That actually makes a lot of sense.

Good idea, but I doubt that Israel or the israeli settlers would pay such a rent. What's then to be done?

Nuke Israel!

Uh... that was a joke. But I do think the US should start respecting human and civil rights and stop pandering to the Israelis.

They should sue in Israeli court.

How is it possible to solve a dispute when one party (Israel) is above the law, has the unconditional support of the U.S. and the west in general, and doesn't have to conform to any standard that is demanded of the rest of the world?

How is it possible to solve a dispute when the Palestinian leadership is riddled with militants intent on keeping the conflict going (both paid mercenaries and brainwashed fanatics), or so weak that they have no power of negotiation?

The winners in this dispute are those who gain from the perception/reality that Israel is under constant threat. And that perception will be maintained at all cost. The losers are the Israeli and Palestinian people, the huge majority of whom just want to live their lives in peace.

A great number of these settlers aren't Israeli Jews but rather hardcore American Jews moving there and stirring shit up.

I would like to invite Imanuel Goldstein to comment on this.
