5 bulgarians nurses and one palestinian MD have been sentanced to death for the supposed HIV injection to 400 childrens in an lybian hospital.
Two international expertise demonstrated that the virus was existing in the hospital before the arrival of the bulgarian nurses.
The truth is that this HIV epidemia is the result of a terrible management of the hospital : that's why Khadafi via his token justice condemn strangers for this drama.
And it work, the family of the kids suffering of AIDS danced and singed of joy when the verdict of the trial was known.
What a pity

An unfortunate story, indeed.

So they may be political enemies of Ghaddafi? Who would ever know the truth of things like this?

Incidentally, at least in the western world, it's spelled Libya.

You are right it's libya, and Libye in french.

Note that Bulgaria is now part of europe. Europe has to do something about this. This nurses and the doc are not guilty, of this crime (contaminating by will childrens). This mess, is related to very bad hygien in this hospital : not enough needles, seringes ...
But the libyan governement, prefer to have scapegoats, rather to admit, the failure in the management of it's hospitals.
The libyans people, also want some blood on that one, and this last point is really a problem.

Generally, there is a exchange between this kind of hostages and $ or €, but in this case, it would be against the lybian public opinion (wich have been brainwashed by Khadaffi).
I really fear for the life of these people

You know I love Europe and think you guys are great but "Europe" and "do something" don't really go together these days.

Unfortunately the pride of powerful was wounded and instead of being embarrassed and vowing to improve things rage and blame took over. If there were one thing I would change about the arab world it would be their arrogant pride backed up by ignorance that they use to no good end at all.

There was a Science Friday podcast about this case for those interested. I'd link to it but I can't find it on the web site. (http://www.sciencefriday.com/feed/)

That's what I meant : if Europe really want to exist, it has to do something, and something strong.

There is a spirit of revenge against the occidental world, that take a bad path : retaliation and violence.
This spirit of revenge exist in other countries but take a far better way :
- the economic war with china
- economic independance with south america

I foresee a future without medical treatment for Libyans. No one with an ounce of self-preservation will practise medicine there now.

This one is tuff to swallow. The accused are no more than scapegoats for an ineffective system. As someone else noted above, this is a good way for Libya to end up with even fewer people willing to come in and practice medicine. .

What's up with all the killing people as a form of justice? It's 2007 now already
WTF. Easy argument: killing ain't gonna cure that HIV in those children.

I don't think one can generalise so broadly about "the arab world"... :(

You must be joking? Look around the arab world. It's dominated by tribalism where the worst of them are better than the rest of you. It's dominated by religious bigotry and antisemitism. Little to no human rights. Little to no rights for women. Deadly homophobia. No democracy. No universal education. Fiefdoms, ruling families, religious thugocracies, religeous police, class systems, caste systems. might over right...

On average the arab world is 400 years behind the rest of the civilized world. Don't kill the messenger.
