View Full Version : Should Israel be wiped off the Eurovision Song Contest?

Two reasons:

1) They are not in Europe. What the hell are they doing on our Eurovision screens? And in the Euro football qualifying?????

2) Lyrics like last night's abomination: (http://www.sweetslyrics.com/449999.Eurovision%20Song%20Contest%202007%20-%20Israel:%20Teapacks%20-%20Push%20the%20Button.html)

The world is full of terror
If someone makes an error
He's gonna blow us up to biddy biddy kingdom come
There are some crazy rulers
They hide and try to fool us
With demonic, technologic willingness to harm

They're gonna push the button, push the button
Push the bu... push the bu... push the button
Push the button, push the button
Push the bu... push the bu... push the button

Having heard this noxious travesty personally I would tend to agree that the popular singing combo Teapacks should indeed be blown to kingdom come but let's try to analyze the above gibberish objectively.

What the Israeli entry is saying appears to be this:

There are some world leaders and there are some demons
Some of these are in league....presumably against Israel

They're trying to fool him but he knows someone is going to 'push the button'.

This seems a bit odd as the enemies of Israel do not actually have any buttons to push - only Israel and their allies do....shome mistake shurely??

Perhaps he is referring to Israel and the US as the demons? Somehow I think not..but on. The lead vocalist of the ensemble then goes on to espouse his desire to sit around doing nothing at all - surely not such a good lifestyle choice?

And I don't wanna die
I wanna see the flowers bloom
Don't wanna go kaput kaboom
And I don't wanna cry
I wanna have a lot of fun just sitting in the sun
But nevertheless

He's gonna push the button, push the button
Push the bu... push the bu... push the button

But despite the earnest sentiments, the reasons why he cannot continue sitting in the sun and watching flowers because the un-named button-pusher is in full button-pressing mode reamin unclear.

Who is this manic button pusher who has no buttons?
How does Mr Teapack know he is about to initiate the pressing procedure?

All these things are, sadly, far from clearly outlined in the lyric sheet.

The main theme is then reiterated in a variety of languages to maximize the impact for European bretheren of less linguistic capability and then the final stanza rises to a chiiling crescendo with a dire warning - suddenly all becomes clear in a terrifying moment of blood-curdling clarity as the button-pusher is revealed in full awesome horror:

Ulay ze khad miday
Tzarikh lashir shirey dkalim, shirey midbar lelo dgalim
Ani od khay, khay, khay
Ve'im yamshikh lihiyot mafkhid, rak az ani agid:

I'm gonna push the button, push the button
Push the bu... push the bu... push the button
Push the button, push the button
Push the bu... push the bu... push the button

So.

Eurovision has come to this. Israeli political propaganda and explicit threats to initiate nuclear war. A sad day.

I have no idea what you are talking about. But I guess it would be on par with the Dixie Chicks holding a concert at a NASCAR race?

Israel does whatever it pleases. Seldom has such a small nation had so much leverage in the international community. Wars they don't get directly into are fought for them by proxy. Even United Nations resolutions are flouted.. some 50 or so in the last few decades.. and... they have nukes (up to 400 of them), biological and chemical weapons but have never been brought to account. And.. their highest government officials have a history being involved in terrorism and massacres.

Even though Irsael is not a European nation, the Eurovision organizers probably didnt dare exclude the Israeli entry (probably on the grounds of wanting to avoid the usual accusations of "anti-Semitism" and "holocaust denier").

One cannot even criticize Israel, and we all know why.

Eurovision:

The European Broadcasting Area is defined by the International Telecommunication Union:

The "European Broadcasting Area" is bounded on the west by the western boundary of Region 1, on the east by the meridian 40° East of Greenwich and on the south by the parallel 30° North so as to include the western part of the USSR, the northern part of Saudi Arabia and that part of those countries bordering the Mediterranean within these limits. In addition, Iraq, Jordan and that part of the territory of Turkey lying outside the above limits are included in the European Broadcasting Area.

Morocco partcipated once. Turky always does. Lebanon will probably. And the palestinians have applied. Nothing to fuzz about really. The show sucks bigtime anyway.

Israel thinks it has an identity, but it has not. (http://www.nytimes.com/2007/05/13/weekinreview/13myre.html?ex=1336708800&en=5031fd44797c8f71&ei=5090&partner=rssuserland&emc=rss)

I remember listening some Ofra Haza when I was a kid ... she had some nice albums ... can't recall the names.
Recently heard some Matisyahu stuff, and liked it. But then bought his CD, and it wasn't that good ... go figure.

BTW, right now have these in my changer:

Now That's What I Call Arabia 8 (http://www.eworldrecords.com/nowthwhicaar2.html)

Alabina by Alabina (http://www.alabina.info/disco.php)

good stuff. Check this out:

Eurovision was big at some point, but I stopped watching it after moving across the pond. Also remember Sanremo ... Anyone?
