Ok - two things I actively detest: a) new-age BS and b) over-hyped do-gooding brainless 'celeb' liggers like Madonna.
One thing I actively am passionate about: Kabbalah.
Oh look: all three things in one nauseating dumbed-down pile of steaming putrescent excrement. (http://afp.google.com/article/ALeqM5grUBWXmx4rqV_RpklCGD2KGmIs4A)
Oh lucky me. Oh the joy.
Oi Madonna: if I had possession of Cornell University's micro-electron microscope which is rumoured to be capable of viewing sub-atomic particles at the highest magnification known to man or beast I STILL could not locate the slightest scintilla of anything remotely resembling Kaballah ever having entered into the vacuous space between your overly protruding ears....
YOU ARE NOT A MARRIED MAN OVER 40
YOU ARE NOT JEWISH
YOU HAVE ALREADY SHAT ON ONE FAITH THAT SHOULD BE ENOUGH
GO AWAY
And take this 'Kabbalah' abomination and shove it up your.....

At least we know who the man of the house is...
Madonna was spotted leaving London’s Claridge’s Hotel toting a see-through plastic bag which revealed her latest purchase - a strap-on sex toy. Apparently it’s a Purple Penetrator, so perhaps Madonna really does wear the trousers in her relationship. Husband Guy Ritchie, who trailed behind looking rather sheepish, had a carry case of his own, but had the good grace to keep its contents under wraps.

Only a few years back she was into Hindu spirituality, now its Kabbalah... whats next? Mormonism?? (!), Sikhism? Would she dare to explore some esoteric branch of Islam? ;)
uh...... no. :O
She'll show up wearing a burka.

She has been into Kaballah for at least 10 years, as she got into it before the "Ray of Light" album (I'm not a huge fan, but I do have that album) and it is a free country she can do as she likes.
This thread reeks of sexism and homophobia.

Nah, it's alright because it's Sego doing the bitching about other people's beliefs. His beliefs are smart and witty and deep, and he's got the really cool persecuted outsider thing going too, so you can't blame him for thinking most of the rest of the world doesn't measure up.

Do you think the two are inseparable? I have known several top-flight business people and the most successful were all - in my definition - very stupid.
Perhaps I should rephrase and say 'very acquisitive and greedy' as well as having the essential to rise to the top: never being able to question the system; you have to buy into it 100% for it to reward you.
To me that is a form of stupidity but others may disagree.

Intelligence and following a self-serving path aren't exclusive. Successfully following a self-serving path certainly requires a bit of intelligence. Doing it to the level that Madonna has done requires near brilliance.
I think you are confusing ethics and intelligence....

Interesting view...I shall consider it.
I have always thought that modern culture rewards those that embrace it and conform to it most completely. Out of those, one will always be a 'near perfect' model: it so happens to be Madonna.
If it was not then it would be someone else...it's natural selection. It only SEEMS to be the product of intelligent design.....

Back OT, it seems that Madonna - oh, I mean Esther, her newly changed 'Jewish name' (I wonder if that will appear on her albums now - I'm guessing not as she is a flatulent hypocrite) is In love with Israel (http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?file=/n/a/2007/09/16/state/n082918D01.DTL).
I wonder which bits? The racist apartheid murder aspect? I think we need to know...then again, maybe not.
"You don't know how popular the Book of Splendor is among Hollywood actors," Yediot quoted Madonna as telling Peres. "Everyone I meet talks to me only about that. I am an ambassador for Judaism."
Oh, the Book of Splendour is popular among Hollywood actors? well, why didn't you say so???? I sure feel a right tit slagging off your ersatz 'Kabalah' now....
She is also gibbering on about the 'WOT' and - God help us all - intends to write a song about it.....
Why God why?

Rabbis disgusted by Madonna's visit (http://www.jpost.com/servlet/Satellite?cid=1189411415061&pagename=JPost%2FJPArticle%2FPrinter)

Orthodox teachers of Kabbala reacted with disdain Sunday to pop idol Madonna's Rosh Hashana visit in Israel, during which she took part in a study session of Judaism's most esoteric texts.
"It is a known fact in Kabbala that impurity and evil are inherently attracted to sanctity," said a director of one of the most respected Kabbala yeshivot in Jerusalem who preferred that he and his institution remain anonymous.
"That's why people of Hollywood, a place of iniquity and lasciviousness, are naturally attracted to the holiness of Kabbala."
The director of the yeshiva said he was explaining a basic Kabbalistic concept according to which "sparks" of holiness tightly connected to "shells" of impurity are waiting to be let free. These "shells" [klipot] are naturally attracted to their polar opposite - holiness.
"Wherever there is holiness and sanctity there is also evil," added the director, who said that during her last visit to Israel three years ago, Madonna repeatedly tried to contact his institution, but her calls were not returned. "That's why someone like that lady - I don't even want to mention her name - is so attracted to the Kabbala."
Rabbi Yitzhak Batzri, son of Jerusalem-based kabbalist David Batzri, head of the Shalom Yeshiva, said that it was forbidden to teach Kabbala to non-Jews such as Madonna.
"Even Jews are not allowed to delve into the secrets of the Kabbala until they have thoroughly reviewed the entire Talmud and the legal commentaries, and also scrupulously adhere to all the commandments," added Batzri. "But we as Jews can learn something from the interest non-Jews have in Kabbala. Even the non-Jews understand the power of the Kabbala. They are willing to come from the ends of the earth to learn it."

so how do we determine whether average intelligence people (like Madonna) can genuinely want to explore a religion?. Who gets to decide that because your not capable of becoming a spiritual master, or that you are famous, have money etc, that you couldnot genuinely be exploring religion? You have to start somewhere, and you will always be limited by your intelligence and inborn capability.
Surely this sucks of stupidity in declaring Madonna is just shitting on another religion because she doesn't have the mental capability to understand it completely or conduct herself as captain refined spiritual would approve of.
Surely if the intent is genuine, later fuck-ups could be attributed to being naive or unintelligent, but that does not take away from the intent.
I dont know Madonna and neither do you, so who decides if the intent is genuine?
BTW, like Paris Hilton, Madonna is someone I can quite happily permanently ignore - unless she came too close with the purple.

Who decides if anything is genuine?
Do you extend the same rationale to other areas I wonder? People offering trips to the moon? Fundies? People claiming to teach this or that skill?
Do you just welcome all comers without discrimination? Perhaps you do - I can imagine how it might be possible.
It would be insane though. And we all know what that actually means - all except the mentally ill anyway.

well, please excuse my mental illness for a moment, I think we've been through that enough already, but
Lets get one thing clear though. I personally think Madonna is super stupid for doing this and her publicity is something that can only help bring about something I would be diametrically opposed to, but you might wonder what is the point of 'refinement' if we do not realise that lots of things that others do, might be extremely stupid and dangerous, but might be done out of lack of intelligence or personal capability, and in no way reflects upon what is genuinely in their heart or what their intent is for doing so.
Afterall, all religions when understood with some degree of intelligence all lead to the same spiritual place, so there is no difference in outcomes, just method and journey. Please correct me if im wrong.
I'm quite accepting of the fact, that pure Christianity, pure Islam, pure Hinduism, pure Judaism - even pure Athiesm etc all lead to the same place when understood and practised properly, the problem is that this doesn't happen because it becomes corrupted, and this should be opposed, because of the problems it causes.
I have to oppose Christianity because it is a corruption, as I do Islam, Hinduism and that pesky Judaism. I'd oppose athiesm if it ultimately meant people just sat infront of the TV watching Fox News wasting their lives. (I'd refer to the already detailed concept of religion being exactly what is here and now as opposed to what it originally started off at, in defining why i'd oppose it)
In my view pure Athiesm would be rejecting all the notions of God and attempting to unravel the secrets of the universe by science, study, refinement of ideas, to find better explanations of reality. Thats what I try to do anyway, maybe the place im at is not so different from traditional explanations of God when understood with a little intelligent refinement (mental illnesses aside) , but obviously im aware that i might not be capable, is that my fault?
Madonna might be a very dangerous tool, but do we judge peoples souls on their flawed intent and capability, or do we oppose the notions of very dangerous tools?
