Browsing the posts here it seems startlingly obvious that the people who witter on the most about the Middle East (apart from me) are rabid wingnut fanboys who know nothing at all about that of which they speak.
Well, fear not. There is help.
Here is a short test that should help clarify matters...please leave answers below:
Q1: Which is the only country in the Middle East to possess nuclear weapons?
Q2: Which country in the Middle East refuses to sign the nuclear non-proliferation treaty and bars international inspections?
Q3: Which country in the Middle East seized the sovereign territory of other nations by military force and continues to occupy it in defiance of United Nations Security Council resolutions?
Q4: Which country in the Middle East routinely violates the international borders of another sovereign state with warplanes and artillery and naval gunfire?
Q5: What American ally in the Middle East has for years sent assassins into other countries to kill its political enemies (a practice sometimes called exporting terrorism)?
Q6: In which country in the Middle East have high-ranking military officers admitted publicly that unarmed prisoners of war were executed?
Q7: What country in the Middle East refuses to prosecute its soldiers who have acknowledged executing prisoners of war?
Q8: What country in the Middle East created 762,000 refugees and refuses to allow them to return to their homes, farms and businesses?
Q9: What country in the Middle East refuses to pay compensation to people whose land, bank accounts and businesses it confiscated?
Q10: In what country in the Middle East was a high-ranking United Nations diplomat assassinated?
Q11: In what country in the Middle East did the man who ordered the assassination of a high-ranking U.N. diplomat become prime minister?
Q12: What country in the Middle East blew up an American diplomatic facility in Egypt and attacked a U.S. ship in international waters, killing 33 and wounding 177 American sailors?
Q13: What country in the Middle East employed a spy, Jonathan Pollard, to steal classified documents and then gave some of them to the Soviet Union?
Q14: What country at first denied any official connection to Pollard, then voted to make him a citizen and has continuously demanded that the American president grant Pollard a full pardon?
Q15: What country on Planet Earth has the second most powerful lobby in the United States, according to a recent Fortune magazine survey of Washington insiders?
Q16: Which country in the Middle East is in defiance of 69 United Nations Security Council resolutions and has been protected from 29 more by U.S. vetoes?
Q17: What country is the United States bombing for years because “U.N. Security Council resolutions must be obeyed?”
ahh segovius-time!
we all know the answers you want to hear. but why limit your questions to the middle east?
is it less bad if a country for example in afrika does stuff like that?
an why limit to countries that have admited it?
here are my answers:
Q1: Which is the only country in the Middle East to possess nuclear weapons?
the real question is: who secretly tries to get them?
that would be at least iran (acording to pakistani metallurgist abdul qadeer khan).
Q2: Which country in the Middle East refuses to sign the nuclear non-proliferation treaty and bars international inspections?
the real question is: after the united kingdom, france, and china got all their nuclear weapons and wanted to stop other countries to get them - who didn't sign their paper?
that would be israel (along with india and south africa, pakistan)
Q3: Which country in the Middle East seized the sovereign territory of other nations by military force and continues to occupy it in defiance of United Nations Security Council resolutions?
that would be the united nations - israel didn't take the land (that brilliant idea came from the united kingdom)
Q4: Which country in the Middle East routinely violates the international borders of another sovereign state with warplanes and artillery and naval gunfire?
which country doesn't? and those that don't, simply don't have the money to do it.
Q5: What American ally in the Middle East has for years sent assassins into other countries to kill its political enemies (a practice sometimes called exporting terrorism)?
which secret service doesn't?
but you only read about the mossad (that trendy nowadays)
Q6: In which country in the Middle East have high-ranking military officers admitted publicly that unarmed prisoners of war were executed?
who does it and doesn't say so?
that list is too long for this thread.
Q7: What country in the Middle East refuses to prosecute its soldiers who have acknowledged executing prisoners of war?
did any country (besides maybe the states) do that?
Q8: What country in the Middle East created 762,000 refugees and refuses to allow them to return to their homes, farms and businesses?
which country does?
<yawn>
Q9: What country in the Middle East refuses to pay compensation to people whose land, bank accounts and businesses it confiscated?
did any country (besides maybe germany) compensate after a war?
<yaaaaaaaawn>
Q10: In what country in the Middle East was a high-ranking United Nations diplomat assassinated?
<zzzzzzzzz.........>
come on sego!
you can do better then that! ;)

Well done! Top marks! I knew I could only pull the wool over the eyes of a winger and never our saner members who would see through it immediately!
You see this is why the Political Right just cannot compete in the intellectual arena - we always rigorously check everything - they just lap things up and let it all seep in without question. Brilliant work Artman.
Wingers: Let this be a lesson to you - always double check everything and cite your sources!!!!!
Good work!

it's nice and easy to call everbody a right winger that doesn't think the way you do.
but if it makes your life easier...
the more you read - the more you see, the truth isn't that simple.

I'm getting tired of this deluge of threads from Segovius.
Update your blog or something instead of posting several new threads here every single day.
*But anyway good thread nonetheless.
I'm bored too. MIndlessly, that's why it happens. :D
Soon I might be bored enough to do something else and absent myself more permanently God willing.
* I stole it. Pay attention.
For a new idea on threads, read old threads. Or was that - For a new idea, read an old book. Seg is only averaging 4 post a day. He will need to improve on that to get to 10,000 before 2009.

Which AI member is perhaps even more anti-semitic than President Tom?
Which member posted an anti-Israeli propaganda thread that violates the posting guidelines on lack of original content and prostelitizing?
Which member utterly ignores Muslim countries' rogue actions while singling out the actions of the US, UK and Israel?
Which member is not just anti-semitic, but anti-Christian as well?
What was the religion of the people that attacked the Marine barracks in 1983, the Discotech in 1986, the embassies in Africa, the trade center in 1993, the USS Cole in 2000 and who perpetrated the attacks on 9/11/2001?
Which dictator invaded his neighbors, used chemical weapons on them, violated 17 UN resolutions, filled mass graves with 300,000 of his own citizens, built himself 50 grand palaces, plotted to assassinate a former US President and watched his citizens live in squalor?
Which nation spends more on aide programs than any other on the planet?
Which nation has lost hundreds of thousands of lives defeating communism, fascism and brutal dictators?

What was the religion of the people that attacked the Marine barracks in 1983, the Discotech in 1986, the embassies in Africa, the trade center in 1993, the USS Cole in 2000 and who perpetrated the attacks on 9/11/2001?
Re. the Marine barracks in 1983. Again, it is an unknown re. the real culprits, and their religion. But according to former Mossad agent Victor Ostrovsky (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Victor_Ostrovsky) the Israeli government knew what was about to go down there in advance. I guess Mr. Ostrovsky knows a leetle bit more about this kind of thing than you or I. I'm just quoting from the horse's mouth here.
Re. the WTC, 1993: does the name Emad Salem (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Emad_Salem) mean anything? Why did his paymasters in the FBI decide that "real explosives" were to be used, instead of the fake bomb that Mr. Salem understood was going to be placed? This one stinks.
Re. the US Embassies in Africa.. Ok, I'll give you that one.. most probably authorized by OBL.
Re. the USS Cole.. doubtful if that qualifies as a "terrorist" attack, since the target was a military asset. That one more qualifies as an act of war.
re. 9/11.. you know what I feel about that. It is significant that a majority of the US people, in a recent Zogby Poll do not trust the findings of the 9/11 Commission, and would like to see a true independent no-holds barred investigation, unlike the pathetic whimper of an inquiry that we got soiled with, courtesy of the iron fist of Philip Zelikow.
Re. the Hamburg disco: A report that aired on German TV in 1998 came up with the following conclusion:
1) The lead defendant presently on trial, Yasser Chraidi, is very possibly innocent, and is being used as a scapegoat by German and American intelligence services.
2) At least one of the defendants, Musbah Eter, has been working for the CIA over many years.
3) Some of the key suspects have not appeared in court, because they are being protected by Western intelligence services.
4) At least one of those, Mohammed Amairi, is an agent of Mossad, the Israeli secret service.
The man charged with being the mastermind of the La Belle attack, 38-year-old Yasser Chraidi, was a driver at the Libyan embassy in East Berlin in 1986. He later moved to Lebanon, from whence he was extradited to Germany in May 1996.
Another relevant article here by Nafeez Mossadeq Ahmed, a most reliable and well-researched reporter, casting doubts as to the reliability of the German prosecutor Detlev Mehlis (http://williambowles.info/syria_lebanon/mehlis.html).
Which dictator invaded his neighbors, used chemical weapons on them, violated 17 UN resolutions, filled mass graves with 300,000 of his own citizens, built himself 50 grand palaces, plotted to assassinate a former US President and watched his citizens live in squalor?
Saddam Hussein of course.. under the watch and approval of both Reagan and Bush Senior, for morre than 10 years...
Which nation spends more on aide programs than any other on the planet?
In total, the U.S. ... but on a per capita basis, we lag a long way behind many other wealthy industrial nations.
Which nation has lost hundreds of thousands of lives defeating communism, fascism and brutal dictators?
How many brutal fascist dictators and thugs have we instigated, financed, and otherwise been allied with, especially since the end of WW2? Let's not even go there. Yes, the US lost millions of troops defeating fascism in Europe in WW2, but you must know which prominent US families, corporations and elites gave aid to Nazi Germany, even during WW2 itself? And in what government department where did many of the Hitler's henchmen end up after WW2? Easy question. Yes, the US and the West won the Cold War and the world breathed a collective sigh of relief (on both sides of the Iron Curtain), but look what happened when we suddenly found ourselves without a perpetual boogeyman in the form of communist expansionism....
Pencils Down!
Guess what, SDW. I love America, but you probably think I hate it, because of my take on things. I have traveled a lot in the last 8 years, and I wouldn't want to live anywhere else more. But... just imagine how much better it would be if the American People (who???) had more of a say in what we do, not just here at home, but all around the world. The American People... omg... what a concept! In our system of a democratic republic, we the people are the BOSS....but unfortunately, that is becoming a noble fantasy. In recent practise, this notion has been eroded (especially at the top levels) and in the last 6 years, the erosion has accelerated beyond all believable bounds, and we are now lumbered with a self-serving administration, where cronyism reigns (please excuse the redundancy there). Whenever I visit other countries and talk with people, I feel so sad about how successive governments (both parties) have abused the trust and responsibility that comes with "sole superpower".

Just at random, let's choose this one. Some points come immediately to mind.
1) The citizens did not live in squalor - they are living in squalor now courtesy of US.
In fact, under Saddam, Iraq had a booming economy and the greatest infrastructure in the ME. They even had electricity.
2) Re Resolutions, assassinating plans for Presidents:
The hypocrisy here is that people like SDW present such things as if they were wrong in themselves.
They are always using examples of torture being wrong, corruption being wrong, killing being wrong. These are their arguments as to why people who employ these methods are wrong (see above quote).
But they are lying.
They do not mean they are wrong. They mean they are wrong when people they oppose do them.
If Israel breaks more resolutions than Iraq it is not wrong.
If the US tries to assassinate a foreign head of state it is not wrong.
If the US invades another country it is not wrong.
If the US tortures innocent people it is not wrong.
And that my friends is why we are all in the shit we are in - because morons who think like this are running amok.
