Border Patrol deputy chief describes weed as 'weapon of mass effect' (http://blogs.usatoday.com/ondeadline/2007/09/border-patrol-d.html)
The Senate Finance Committee held a hearing yesterday on revelations in a GAO report that says investigators were able to sneak across the northern border with bags that could have contained radioactive or other dangerous materials.
Ronald Colburn, the deputy chief of the Border Patrol, was on the hot seat. He explained his agency's long-term strategy to shore up the 4,000-mile border. Then, while responding to a question from Sen. Olympia Snowe, R-Maine, about how agents determine whether someone poses a threat, he equated weed with weapons:
"There were nearly a million people that weren't successful in crossing both borders this year. And speaking of weapons of mass effect, 2 million pounds of marijuana is a weapon of mass effect that we prevented from happening this year along the border."
By this definition the caffeine in the millions of pounds of coffee imported and exported of the USA -- are 'weapons of mass effect'. Or WME I guess...wait...
Ben and Jerry's = WME
Bucket of Fried Chicken = WME
Third helpings at a buffet = WME
...and the only thing you're going to be attacking with those weapons is the toilet. You may have to make several runs, but eventually you'll hit the target. :grumble:
