Spies like us (http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2007/10/17/AR2007101702438.html?nav=rss_politics)
My favorite part is how even though Republicans don't control either chamber, they've controlled this. They simply walked up with a gun, and forced the Democrats to vote for the bill. Sure there was a competing bill, but they couldn't force the Republicans to vote for it in the minority even though somehow the Democrats can be forced to vote for it in the majority.
I hope someday to have such superpowers.

Trumpy wants you all to believe that a simple one-seat majority (and that one seat being controlled by "Iran is going to kill us all" Liberman) and that somehow gives Democrats the ability to do EVERYTHING and do it NOW. Please.
He knows better.
Don't fall for this lame ass bait.

Who's this Chris Dodd dude and why is he planning to put a hold on the Senate FISA renewal bill because it reportedly grants retroactive immunity to telephone companies for any role they played in the Bush administration's warrantless eavesdropping program? (http://tpmelectioncentral.com/2007/10/exclusive_senator_chris_dodd_will_put_a_hold_on_te lecom_immunity_bill.php?)
Maybe he's running for president. Maybe he doesn't have any Telcom contributions.
CHRIS DODD 2008! CHRIS DODD 2008! CHRIS DODD 2008! CHRIS DODD 2008!...

Bush may have to stay in power longer (http://blog.wired.com/27bstroke6/2007/10/bush-quip-might.html) than he wants to protect the American people by vetoing bills the evil Democrat controlled congress* wants to pass.

Yeah, my bait is lame. Certainly the Senate Majority leader has no control over what legislation comes up for a vote, when it comes up and any procedural maneuvers related to it.
What sort of blinders are you wearing where the party in power can accomplish NOTHING with regard to their stated agenda?
One day you will realize that when you go along with the agenda, then it is your agenda as well.

Ahem...
If this were a dictatorship, it'd be a heck of a lot easier, (hehhehheh) just so long as I'm the dictator. (Eheheh) (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aD3xfT0c99g)

It's like when you're joking with your girlfriend about something you secretly want, just to gauge her reaction to see if you have a chance.
"You friend Emily is kinky. I bet she would have a 3some with us. Hehehehe.... Right? I bet she would. You should ask her... you know. For fun."

Artman, I would love to believe your link is true, but according to North and others, it clearly is impossible. The Republicans, even as a minority party, are responsible for and control all legislation that goes through the chamber. The Democrats are NEVER responsible for the actual passage of a bill or legislation nor the stoppage of said bills as well.:p
Please stop posting your fantasy links. Next you claim the Democrats control both houses or something like that.

You do realize it requires 60 votes to overturn a presidential veto, right?
Of course, you do. You're a teacher.
Stop being so obtuse.

You mean the ones that the president vetos? Or the ones that Republicans reserve the "F" word for?

You do realize he wouldn't veto the bill he desires that the Democrats (before Dodd helped pull it) were passing for him. (apparently against their will)
Seriously, I mean your use of the word there just busted the irony meter. (again)
Let this teacher help you.
This FISA bill is something the Democrats claimed they opposed. Now they were giving Bush the FISA bill because the prior bill was getting ready to expire.
You claimed that the Democrats HAD to give Bush the bill he wanted because... well because they are brain-washed idiot who are never responsible for their own actions or votes. Then Dodd jumped forward and stopped the bill. Now in some sort of completely irrational nonsense, you claim they HAD to pull the bill Bush WANTS because they can't override his veto.
Because obviously Bush would veto the bill he really wants...

Dodd is a Democratic senator, so even though the useless House leadership and feckless Democrats in the house caved to Mr. 24% and gave him what he wanted...again...Dodd has effectively made it impossible for the telcos to get immunity like Bush wanted, by preventing the Senate version of this bill to make it to a vote.
At least there's one Democrat in congress who has some fucking balls, and respects the constitution he was sworn to defend and uphold.
A hold is just a statement of intent to filibuster, of course. All the senate needs is 60 senators to disagree with him. But I don't think 60 Senators would be dumb enough to back up this bill now that it's been noticed by people. They only like to support things like this when no one's looking, that way when the vote comes to light they can make up some sort of spin about how they were actually voting for some small part of the bill and not the part giving telcos amnesty.

Oh I know all about Dodd and I hope you understood the sarcastic tone of my previous reply. Dodd has done us a favor by showing how simple it is to hold something up in the Senate. The claim that the minority party, or Bush who is not even part of the chamber can demand or push through something against the will of the majority is just pure nonsense.
Now the point to wake up to, and perhaps you and a few others are ready for this, is that when things like this continue to "slip by" that majority, it isn't just the doings of that evil Bush. It is what the majority wants, including the Democratic leadership and party.
At least there's one Democrat in congress who has some fucking balls, and respects the constitution he was sworn to defend and uphold.
One is all it takes and so in the future when that one doesn't stand up, or in this instance if he ends up sitting back down due to a slap from his own leadership, put the blame where it squarely belongs, on the Democrats who spoke one way and then acted another.

Don't worry.. if they do manage to come up with 60, it will still somehow be Bush's fault. Isn't that wonderful and great! Cheney will have gone down to the chamber, shot 20 Democrat Senators in the face and they will have been replaced by Bush duplicates who had plastic surgery to look like the shot senators. Afterwards John Stewart will make a joke about how Bush couldn't spell plastic surgery and we will have our evil emperor who controls all even though he is a monkey-boy caricature restored. The Democrats will hold shrug their shoulders and not be responsible for their own votes yet again.

Good points and hilarious ending there. Good one.
This just in...
Obama Comes Out Against Telecom Immunity Bill (http://tpmelectioncentral.com/2007/10/obama_comes_out_against_telecom_immunity_deal.php)
“I have consistently opposed this Administration's efforts to use debates about our national security to expand its own power, whether that was on the Iraq war, or on its power grab to curb our civil liberties through domestic surveillance programs. It is time to restore oversight and accountability in the FISA program, and this proposal -- with an unprecedented grant of retroactive immunity -- is not the place to start.”
Remember, Obama is not taking any contributions from PAC's or registered lobbyists.
Meanwhile Cheney is loading his gun muttering, "Damn relatives..."

As a teacher, and as a fire-breathing liberal, I find this little argument pretty damned insulting regardless of target. It smacks of the 4th grade.
