This is good work. But does it belong in PO? And isn't it against forum guidelines not to make your comments first?

Yeah, agreed. It's interesting though.

I find it interesting that those who rail loudest against war are the ones who engaged in most of it.

Hi,

If Artman had to have his thread shut down because of lack of content, this one is even worse. At least a picture speaks a thousand words.

I agree with the "it's interesting" comments, however, notions of what Democrats and Republicans are/stand for have changed quite a bit throughout US history. Adherence to the Constitution and Bill of Rights has also been wobbly. Changes are needed, and the narrow view of 2 parties is inadequate to address the problems.

I agree, Lets start a new party. What shall we call it?

Why start a new one? We have plenty of parties that are better suited for people. For example, current Republicans that desire less government and social services but are social liberals would be better off as Libertarians. Same goes for Democrats that wouldn't mind scaling back on many social services and want to continue having their civil liberties restored and/or preserved.

If we granularize the party system soon we'll have a government with thousands of political parties with few people and narrow agendas that never get anything done.

As I was watching it, two things struck me:

1. The democrat wars seemed more "necessary" than the republican wars (except for the civil war).

2. WWI and WWII artificially bumped the democrats way up.

Don't know if this signifies anything, but FDR's long duration may have bumped it up too.

There were plenty of people then, who thought we should Not have been involved in WWI or WWII. "necessary" is only valid after the fact.

<bait>Yea... Hitler was no direct threat to us. And we need to understand why Pearl Harbor was our fault.
Damn interventionist American war-monger FDR and his illegal wars. :p </bait>

Well I'd have to argue not true in the case of Vietnam and Korea...
