Is there any way to find out the firmware version of the iPhone, without actually opening the box? I'm going to be in an Apple store sometime this week, but want to make sure I'm not buying an iPhone that has 1.1.3 in it already.

Also is there a way to know if it comes with a 5 series or a 7 series screen before opening?

1 Its possible you could extrapolate from the serial number, search for info on that, but there is no way you can be 100% sure.
