I don't know from any sort of experience... ...but I 'heard' that you can not theme Jaguar, at least not the pre-release builds that some people have. Switching the extras resource just causes applications to quit as soon as you start them, if you do it either with Duality or manually. Does anyone know why or a way around it?

The HIToolbox framework has undergone changes and will not work properly with outdated replacements from 10.1. The same thing happened when Puma came out and people tried using parts from 10.0 in it.

The "themes" will just have to be redone or updated to work properly now. It's a fairly simple chore.

I wish Apple would just include a few themes built right into the OS. Nothing major. Just the ability to change the Aqua color to anything other than graphite would be nice for now. I am sure the ability is there - just not enabled? Unless this is a feature in Jaguar already?

No, Aqua and Graphite are still hard-coded into the HIToolbox files. There's nothing new there except for moving around the icon storage and the updated button styles.

I *really* doubt that Apple will come around to allowing other themes through a built-in mechanism any time soon. Even the Graphite variation isn't a complete theme in itself; rather, it's just a switch for some specific elements.

Yeah, someone who showed me what a newbie I was deserves to be a mod.

A built in theme engine in Mac OS X would be nice. I can't see apple dedicate much resources to it.

But look at <a href="http://www.apple.com/" target="_blank">http://www.apple.com/</a> and <a href="http://www.apple.com/macosx" target="_blank">http://www.apple.com/macosx</a>

Apple.com now uses milk-like widgets, and the Mac OS X site has a jaguar theme. I would kill (not really) to have that Jaguar theme for Mac OS X.

Thanks guys. :)
but back on topic...

It's important to note that the different tabs have always had different colors since the tabbed "look" was introduced to Apple.com in January 2000. The tabs themselves have been refined as Aqua has been refined, but Aqua itself still doesn't have the same color variations that the web site has. The current tabs are the same style as the tabs in Jaguar, except, again, for the varying colors and the Jaguar style on the Mac OS X pages.
