Let's have a go right now.
People have the right to write in votes.
I will tally any write-ins once the poll closes in a week.
Let's keep this thread clean; discussions belong elsewhere.

I guess you can write in Paul if you want too. Wasted vote.
Isn't Nader running too? What was that republican/libertarian guy that was running too? Forgettable I guess.

Bob Barr. Might take some votes from McCain... at least here in Georgia.

I started a thread to discuss write-ins and to debate the topic of write-ins.

Not quite 24 hours into our "election" and, Obama leads 12 to 1 over McCain and a write-in.

And therefore Obama will win the REAL election.

One day into this poll and Obama is up 18 to 1 for McCain and 2 "other".

If Larson has any integrity, based on his positions and everything he goes on about, he's writing in Paul.

This poll closes today, so I will bump this one last time, but it certainly looks like Obama has it here on AI.

 It's supposed to prove something, I guess. That a board full of liberals love Barack Obama. Wow.

I disagree.
If the Dems lose on account of Palin and the present (though mainly a repeat of previous election-time behavior it is worse this time) despicable behavior of the Rebs, it will show how the US has really slipped under the spell and doesn't bother to debate issues or really care about anything for that matter, favoring instead immature antics, blatant lies, flip-flopping like there is no tomorrow, popularism and separation (no news conferences, etc) which flies in the face of a democracy. If this is the level that McCain and his cronies want to take the country to, GWB will look like a great president in a couple of years.
These are frightening times and I hope that the US is not as dumb as it appears.
The American presidency has been reduced to a kindergarten circus, and it is embarrassing.

The Dems should be up by 20 points at this point in the Presidential race... with such idiocy in the White House and the GOP brand having been successfully reduced in value.
It's just that they chose a loony lefty with bad personal ties, no experience, and no presidential aura absent a teleprompter. Most compelling among all of that is the fact that he's a complete and total leftist in the mold of Carter... a model of socialism that many moderate democrats in swing districts are distancing themselves from.

So which Dem would be up by 20 now? Hillary? Biden? No, I don't buy it. Whoever the nominee, the Republican base would be shouting about leftists and socialists. There are enough Republicans - say, 40% or so of the country - who would never vote for a Democrat for president that none would be "up by 20 points," no matter how badly Republicans have fucked things up.

Why don't we play a more interesting game, now, and vote who we think will win. That is, the vote isn't necessarily for your candidate, but who you think will win.
Despite whatever you think about the McCain-Palin ticket, they are storming the polls. The bookies have responded, too. I would expect this kind of Obama support from this forum, but I am hoping that for at least a spell maybe some of us can refrain from venom spewing and kool aid drinking (of either flavor) and consider the actual US voters.

He's gone from 293 to 245 electoral votes to 266 to 272 in about 1-2 weeks. Ouch.
Ouch for the country, ouch for the world.
If his ratings go down while Camp McCain continues as it is now, then it only suggests a bad future for all of us because it shows the masses are dumb enough to buy into the crap that McCain is dishing out just to get elected, without any real thought about the country or world.

Actually, I'm getting use to the idea of a major economic depression occuring during the next Republican administration. :D
Been pouring over the CBO and OMB projections lately. Doesn't look good. I think the October CBO monthly will show the FY2008 budget deficit well south of $400 B. The FY2009 budget deficit will probably be well south of $500 B.
The federal financial picture is in an ominous oscillatory trend and has been for a while.
Continued job losses, ongoing housing crisis, can't wait for the quarterly financial reports from the oil/gas industry ($$$$$$), the US automakers ($$$$$$), and banking industries ($$$$$$).
Run John run. See John run. Run Sarah run. See Sarah run. Run Hoover run. See Hoover run.
And what got us out of the last Great Depression? WWII. Expect McCain-Palin to move the USA into a wartime economy with the draft and major wars with Russia and Iran.
WWIII and WWIV at the same time even! 8-)

I think I read somewhere that Americans, percentage wise in a first world country, are the most ill informed on important matters.
Why?
Intellectually lazy, just like the turnip they elected twice.
Relying on your gut feeling only works sometimes for those with experience in their pursuits.

While watching the Sarah Palin interview with Charlie Gibson Thursday night, and the coverage of the Palin phenomenon in general, I’ve gotten the scary feeling, for the first time in my life, that dimwittedness is not just on the march in the U.S., but that it might actually prevail.
It's been on the march ever since the country and western rednecks disowned the Dixie Chicks.

The biggest twist in that story is that Toby Keith is a Democrat (http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2008/08/19/toby-keith-praises-obama_n_119930.html).
So?
How is that a twist?

I may be wrong, but wasn't the feud more about Keith's red white and blue song being dismissed
by Maines as making country music sound ignorant?
I was thinking more about the outrage that was shown against them for being unAmerican for dissing Bush, in an other country.
Totally off the chart, CD burnings, death threats etc.
The begining of dimwittedness.
As for Keith,
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Toby_Keith
The lead singer of the Dixie Chicks, Natalie Maines, publicly stated that Keith's song was "ignorant, and it makes country music sound ignorant."[8] Keith responded by belittling Maines' songwriting skills, and by displaying a backdrop at his concerts showing a doctored photo of Maines with Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein.
Good come back Keith, but the Dixie chicks have more talent than you could ever hope to have.
In August 2003, Keith publicly declared he was done feuding with Maines 'because he's realized there are far more important things to concentrate on'.[11] However, he continues to refuse to say Maines' name, and claims that the doctored photo was intended to express his feeling that Maines' criticism was tyrannical and a dictator-like attempt to squelch Keith's free speech.
Ah, I see, she attempted to squelch your free speech, ergo, same as Saddam. Good one.
