View Full Version : Obama's Speech In St.Louis...Pie?? A Serious Question
midwinter

Did anyone else watch Obama's speech in St Louis today? Did he really do an entire riff on what kind of pie he likes? And holy shit, there were people in the crowd cheering...FOR PIE.
So here's the serious question:
if you were at an Obama rally, and he started into a 2 minute long aside about the various kinds of pie be likes, would you cheer when he named a pie you liked?

I think it started in Philadelphia...
It's a cute story that brings him closer to the people who love pie, and who doesn't love pie?
heh...
btw, I love the fact that McCain walked into the trap of calling a tax break for the middle class welfare... Whoever is running his campaign is thinking only about the next immediate battle...
Idiots.

Yeah. I mean, he seriously went on for like 2 minutes about pit.
Something like "Now, we'd been working hard all day and had worked up an appetite, and in the course of talking about gettin' somethin' to eat, we started talking about pie. Now. I like pie. Some people like cake, but I like pie. But if you like cake, that's okay. But I like pie. So we asked where the best place to get pie was in this town, and they told us Ed's pie hole. So we went down there and they had all kinds of pie. I asked them for some pecan pie. They didn't have any pecan pie. I like pecan pie. I asked them for some blueberry pie. They didn't have any blueberry pie. But I like blueberry pie."
It seriously went on like that for about 2 minutes.

My farm share had a womping huge sweet potatoe (sic) in it last week. We got two pies out of it. It's all gone now so if Obama comes by I'll just have to ask him a policy question although I'd rather share some pie with him.

He did begin by saying that his favorite pie was sweet potato.

Doesn't sound like enough to make anything out of it. Besides he's being personable. The opposition has been trying to doing this the entire time.

But seriously, I can totally see why Obama is doing this. His opponent has nothing to talk about other than what a dark, sinister character Obama is. His opponent is hunched, angry, and harsh.
So Obama starts talking about pie, presenting himself as cheerful and relaxed. The tonic for his being portrayed as the scariest man in America.
Of course, for a certain constiuancy, that will ring false. For instance, the second comment I saw at You Tube when I clicked on the link for the video:
watch the speech at temple there is no mention of sweet potato pie there is he jigging it up for the brothers
There's a Palin voter, my friends.
As for Midwinter's original question: I might have cheered if he had mentioned Chess Pie.

Democratic presidential candidate Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill., waves as he walks out of the Obama Kansas City campaign office with a slice of pie in his hand in Kansas City, Mo. Saturday, Oct. 18, 2008.
