I am sure this has been covered somewhere but after a few searches I cannot find anything.
Surely I am doing something wrong.
How do I sync custom playlists without creating a duplicate track on the Ipod?

I am pretty sure that multiple playlists having the same track don't result in multiple copies put on the iPod. Do you go into the master song list on the iPod and find the same track twice? And you're sure that it's not two different versions of the same song?
iTunes takes care of that ... playlists are merely pointers to a song... it will not upload more than one copy of a particular track to your iPod, but you can have references to it showing up in different playlists.
